    My first poll <badger><badger>

So, after Nigel Clough was sacked last Saturday (which I did agree with, Derby needed freshening up imo) sitting in 3rd position of the longest serving managers table do you think its time we had something similar to the transfer window?

Here are the top 20 as is stands

    Arsène Wenger France 22 October 1949 Arsenal Premier League 1 October 1996[note 1][1] 17 years, 1 day

Paul Tisdale England 14 January 1973 Exeter City League Two 26 June 2006[2] 7 years, 98 days

Chris Wilder England 23 September 1967 Oxford United League Two 21 December 2008[3] 4 years, 285 days

Mark Yates England 24 January 1970 Cheltenham Town League Two 22 December 2009[4] 3 years, 284 days

Russell Slade England 10 October 1960 Leyton Orient League One 5 April 2010[5] 3 years, 180 days

Karl Robinson England 13 September 1980 Milton Keynes Dons League One 10 May 2010[6] 3 years, 145 days

Graham Turner England 5 October 1947 Shrewsbury Town League One 11 June 2010[7] 3 years, 113 days

Tony Mowbray England 22 November 1963 Middlesbrough Championship 26 October 2010[8] 2 years, 341 days

Alan Pardew England 18 July 1961 Newcastle United Premier League 9 December 2010[9] 2 years, 297 days

Dean Smith England 19 March 1971 Walsall League One 5 January 2011[10][11] 2 years, 270 days

Darren Ferguson Scotland 9 February 1972 Peterborough United League One 12 January 2011[12] 2 years, 263 days

    Chris Powell England 8 September 1969 Charlton Athletic Championship 17 January 2011[13][note 2] 2 years, 258 days

Micky Adams England 8 November 1961 Port Vale League One 13 May 2011[14] 2 years, 142 days

Jim Bentley England 11 June 1976 Morecambe League Two 13 May 2011[15] 2 years, 142 days

Paul Cox England 6 January 1972 Mansfield Town League Two 19 May 2011[16] 2 years, 136 days

Sam Allardyce England 19 October 1954 West Ham United Premier League 1 June 2011[17] 2 years, 123 days

Martin Jol Netherlands 16 January 1956 Fulham Premier League 7 June 2011[18] 2 years, 117 days

Uwe Rösler Germany 15 November 1968 Brentford League One 10 June 2011[19] 2 years, 114 days

Malky Mackay Scotland 19 February 1972 Cardiff City Premier League 17 June 2011[20] 2 years, 107 days

Phil Parkinson England 1 December 1967 Bradford City League One 28 August 2011[21] 2 years, 35 days

Quite astounding and not many top flight managers there either, such is the pressure of staying in the Premiership

I say yes to the window and would suggest the whole of June for the summer and the last 2 weeks of December for the new man to go shopping if required in Jan

So yes or no? I'd be interested to know you thoughts

    i don't really think so.

ok clubs who do stupid things like di canio deserve it and i suppose a decently run club would make these decisions in may or some such anyway but you have to think the ability to sack a manager and make a change is something clubs need to do when they need to do it.

Ppl used to say that about the transfer window and now clubs cope

I do think managers need some degree of stability. Working against a time frame (Clough knew he was in trouble against Leics in the league cup according to Leics manager) must make them make rash decisions

No for me - if a player isn't performing, you can drop him from the team and have 5 or 6 other players to chose from instead. However if a manager is doing ****, under this rule you'd have to suffer for another 3 or 4 months before you can sack them at which point you may already been certain for relegation etc.

You make a good point but take Lambert for example. Started ****e but was given time and not doing to bad now. From last 2 weeks of Dec a new man would usually have time to turn it around

If managers were struggling to find jobs, I'd agree. But even ****e managers jump into a new bed within months of being sacked - all with a rather big pay off too.

Couldn't care less about their job security when the rewards are so big and they hardly struggle to find a new one.

The pay offs arent bad, cant argue with that. ****ing FA have done enough of them <doh> Why cant they say if you dont do a good job and we terminate your contract you wont walk away with millions, still want the job?

Maybe not so big termination purses for lower leagues though............

It doesn't mean every manager that does **** get's the sack though. Your example of Lambert is in a world where there aren't transfer window's for managers so using that as an example of where there should be is sort of flawed.

What I meant was if you do it before season start and end of Dec, no team should be in trouble enough to be virtually relegated under a bad manager. And if a manager gets longer than a month (because he cant get the sack) he'll have another 4 in which his style etc may come through to the team

I can see the why he should and why he shouldnt have arguement and the fans are split on it

I personally think he should have as after 5 yrs I think they should be nearer the play offs, a lot of fans not renewed season tickets such was the bad football at Pride Park

He's done a good job in some ways though, youth, having to sell their better players, no budget. I dont think McClarens the right appointment
