What do you guys want Giggs to do if we change manager in the near future? No one knows for sure what the future holds but it looks like LVG will be leaving (either soon or at the end of the season at the latest), and Mourinho is the big front-runner at the moment to take over. My question is not what do you THINK will happen, but what do you WANT to happen? A) Giggs become the next MUFC manager. (If so, who do you think would make a good no. 2 to complement him?) B) Another manager takes over and Giggs remains as Assistant Manager. (If so, would you only go for this option if it's a big name manager that he can learn from like Jose or someone similar?) C) Leave the club to go manage another team and get experience that way, with the view to manage United in the future. (Likely teams are Swansea and Cardiff I guess, but I'm sure other teams may well be interested. Would you recommend managing PL teams only or Championship teams with a chance of promotion? Or even lower teams?) D) Leave the club but don't become a manager. (Other options would be media role, club ambassador etc. State your preference)
Personally I'd prefer him to go manage another team and then to manage us in the future. I'd hate for him to manage us as his first managerial role and mess it up, and then never get a chance to manage us again. I think you can only learn so much as a no. 2, and it's better to cut your teeth at a smaller club, experiment with what works and then come back to United with some experience under your belt (ideally 5+ years).
I actually think he has become too tied to the club for his own good. He would find it hard to move to another club where things aren't done the 'Utd' way - I believe he would struggle to adapt. I can see him staying as Jose's no2 or even slipping back into the coaching staff if any of the class of 92 come on board.
I'd like him to become the manager although he'd need a very experienced assistant, someone like Queiroz. As it is, I think Mourinho will get the job which leaves Giggs in limbo. I doubt he'll want to be Mourinho's assistant and there's no benefit in him leaving to manage another club. Even if he's a success elsewhere it won't help prepare him to be the United manager. The reality is most football managers get sacked inside a couple of years so he'll just add a blot to his CV.
Yep because 10 years at Everton really helped Moyes get to grips with what it's like to manage Manchester United...
It's right up there amongst the very best football cliches isn't it? That going away to manage a club that bears absolutely **** all similarity whatsoever to the behemoth of Manchester United will prepare you for that job. This will prepare you way better then being at the club for thirty years and spending three or fours as assistant to the actual manager of said behemoth will ever do. Yeah, go manage Swansea. It'll set him up just perfectly.
I'm probably wrong, but Giggs sitting there in the background looking blank doesn't suggest much as to his ability to step up. What he does behind the scenes is very important, of course, but what are his skills as a coach/manager apart from being a good club man? Good motivator? Man manager? Tactician?
Ultimately it depends on what's best for United, not the ppl mentioned. As such, the two best options are... 1) Mourinho with a decent number 2 who compliments him (if that's Giggs fine otherwise someone else) 2) Giggs with a defensively experienced number 2 to compliment him e.g. Phelan or Queiroz.
