Rajoy has gone (for now) as he lost a vote of confidence in the Spanish Parliament. He was next to useless. Hope Sánchez (PSOE) can make a better fist of it, and pragmatism rather than socialist ideology rules the day.

Why are a plethora of countries from Spain, Italy, Greece, and the UK governed by Governments about as good as a clapped out Austin Marina while Germany has the ultra efficient Mercedes?

I don't know Ides, but I seem to remember you touting Rajoy as a potential leader of the UK conservatives, or some such weirdness?

Did I dream that?

I has a Morris Ital van in the 80s. Ex British Gas, bought at auction. Pretty decent workhorse and rarely let me down, though come to think of it, I did occasionally have to hit the starting motor with a hammer to get it going.

“I did occasionally have to hit the starting motor with a hammer to get it going.”

Those were the days.
I had a Morris Minor as my first car, complete with crank handle, which was used all too often.
And the “sh1t in the carburettor” problem. Driving home in rush hour, then the engine would cut out, bonnet up, tap the carburettor with a spanner and hope it would clear the blockage and restart.
Happy days.

The joys of a stuck Bendix. Used to get that with my first Mini.
