With AFC Wimbledon being deducted 3 points for fielding an illegible player and Sunderland's resurgence is this fair to us?

I don't know the ins and outs of either situation, but wasn't the Sunderland one a really odd quirk in the rules, that the club actually had to point out to the FA when they realised it? Their ineligible player should have been eligible, if not for a failure to file paperwork that the club didn't realise was necessary?

    This<ok>

Also we had all this Bullshit with QPR and we all agreed that winning the title by default would have surely tainted that season, so i wouldn`t like to scupper Sunderland`s amazing resurgence out of desperation.
We have more class than that i would hope:redface:

    Thanks for that.

The case is that he was our player and we loaned him out to a team n Germany with an agreed end date to the contract and lodged the papers with the FA and the Premier League. When he returned it was assumed by everybody that that was that. However the club checked the rules and found that even if it is your player, if he is an overseas player and he has been on loan to a club in a different country you have to reapply for his clearance. It appears that neither the legume or the F- knew their own rules so had never relished this was the case.

To be on the safe side the club reported themselves!

It would be beyond cruel If Sunderland were to lose points. They deserve to survive and if we were to pip them it would be a travesty. This season though I don't rule anything out.

All this generosity towards the mackems is lovely, but they knew what they were doing the cheating fecks and should get shafted  They deserve to go down for appointing Di Canio

That's right, The premier league themselves actually marked Ji as eligible on their records, the only reason they found out is when the club spotted it and reported it, if Sunderland hadn't come forward would the Premier League have ever known? Probably not. As far as they were concerned everything was in order. Probibly why they didn't go public stright away and swept it under the carpet.

Also, AFC Wimbledons player hadn't been registered at all. Ji was a registered player, it was his international clearance which wasn't sorted.

The Punishment was also within the rules and accepted by the club, they won't reopen the book. Sunderland haven't really done much wrong apart from the actual mistake which has been punished, the Premier league's behaviour on the other hand is a bit suspect in relation to them not going public stright away.

We won't get a points deduction never in a million years. Ji was ****e anyway and only hindered us <laugh>

Fair enough guys, thought it was worth exploring as a discussion point but I do agree that it would be a piss poor way of avoiding relegation. If we end up in the bottom three we will have deserved it.

    Fair comment.

Have always had a soft spot for you lot going back to the 70's when I stood behind the goal on a few occasions, never really remember getting much in those games but was always a good day out. That was before the Milk Cup as well.

The only negative was Steve Bruce making a comment in the match day programme, that he always wanted Sunderland to get beat in every game. Well he did try to do than when he managed us.

Any how good luck next season, if as seems likely you do go down.
