I was watching the early evening quiz show Pointless on BBC1 and the questions were on football club nicknames This woman said Tractor Boys was Norwich City. Made me laugh. She is probably no longer welcome in Suffolk etc
What was better was last night's Seven Dwarves programme one of the Dwarves is from Norfolk and another one says "Aren't they all a bit inbred there".....
No-one gives a stuff about that nickname. Don't forget we have to ask where it comes from, that says it all really. And Lovejoy was filmed on location in Debenham so of course it would be a Town hat!
To be honest I find that a bit daft! Just because some obscure character in an an episode of Lovejoy playing a binman happened to be wearing a Ipswich cap!
The Beeb could do worse than rerunning the whole thing on a Sunday - save filming some new crap, screen a very good old show and spend the cash saved on putting TOTP back on the air!
JWM, I hate the stupid tractor boy nickname too. Forgive if me if I'm wrong but didn't it start from one journalist or a headline in one of the tabloids in the late nineties. If i remember rightly somehow it just took off from there and now we can't shake it. Grrrrrr
Whenever anyone asks me how the Tractor boys got on, I always tell them I hate that nickname before telling them the result .....the last two games I have just told them to f*ck off!
I did hate it. You're right it started off the season Town finished fifth under Burley. But I feel a very strong sense of pride to come from Suffolk and there's nothing to be ashamed of to come from somewhere with a rich agricultural history. It's better than Tottenham's Riot Boys!
I've got to say 'Tractor Boys' Doesn't bother me in the slightest, there are some ridiculous nicknames in the football league and I don't think we have the worst.
