I was just talking to Mary about something and fessed up to first being at the Valley in the early 70's (I was part of Andy Nelson's red and white Army ) But when did the rest of you start going? It's a private poll so nobody will know what you put down AllHell
Versus Grimsby in a freezing cold Night Game - never seen a sky so black - in the 1996/7 (I think '96). Cashing in on Euro 96. Later found out that they had Clive Mendonca up front.
August 2002 - opening day of the season. Lost 3-2 to Chelsea after being 2-0 up. Konchesky was sent off.
It was 93 or 94. Played Bolton. Had 3 shots on goal and won 3-0. Peter garland scored a screamer from 20 yards. The east stand was just being built.
1975; at home to QPR in a League Cup replay. We lost 0-3, and Stan Bowles scored for them. If he could only pass a bookies the way he passed a ball............... Only goes to show, the first time isn't the best.
Do you remember Dave Thomas' opening goal in that game, FHB? 35 yards and changed direction a couple of times...beautiful. The away game was one of the finest performances I've ever seen from a Charlton side - 1-1 against possibly the greatest QPR side of all time.
A Tuesday night in October '74, we beat Watford 4-1 with Killer, Harry Cripps (God rest his soul), Arthur Horsfield and Bob Curtis (God rest his soul). I was also at the Croydon Club game where Killer did 'em in front of 27,000 (mostly standing as we had bugga all seats then AND!, at the time, you didn't go to football to sit down!!!!!) I must have done something right we got promoted in my first season.
94/95 season, Petterson was in goal. Was in a fairly shiny new East Stand. That's about all I remember. Didn't go again until 2001/2002 vs Bolton at home. Lost after a Djorkaeff masterclass.
Jan 1989 vs Luton Town in a 3-0 win at Selhurst - I must be one of even fewer who's first game was to see us at Selhurst as part of the lost generation, do many of us know many Charlton fans in there 30's who haven't jumped on the bandwaggon in recent years?
