Guess who's in for a shock at Villa in a fortnight? please log in to view this image by Kristian Balkin on Feb 27, 2012 11:51 PM GMT New striker Pavel Pogrebnyak has praised Fulham's away following in Saturday's 1-0 derby victory over Queens Park Rangers, claiming; "I have never seen so many away fans at a stadium." The Russian striker, formerly of VFB Stuttgart and FC Zenit, has proved himself to be a handful in his two games so far for the Cottagers, claiming a goal in each and utilising his palpable size and upper-body strength to fend off defenders. He's been widely likened to Bobby Zamora in that he can hold the ball up and can apply subtle finishes to exquisite moves, but despite the appraisals being chucked the way of Pogrebnyak, the forward admits that he is struggling with the pace of the game. "I haven't been this exhausted for a long time. The match was very intense, hardly any pauses," he told Sport-Express. "Tough challenges and big powerful defenders are difficult to adjust to initially." He had time to thank the 3,000 travelling fans that made their way to Loftus Road and also went on to explain the intimacy of his celebration. "I didn't know we are not supposed to celebrate with the fans. Aside from that, I was very pleased with the support. "I am in a great mood, of course. I never expected to get off to such a good start. Hopefully my form will continue." http://www.cottagersconfidential.com/2012/2/27/2829268/pogrebnyak-impressed-by-away-support?
I wish we had bought him looks like a great prospect and i think he cost less than Zamora also looks like a Warnock type of player, I wonder?
I agree Flanman, he could be the buy of the season. He does look good and very lively, unlike Zamora who looks half a kip.
Think he's free come the summer. Only a six month loan and his contract with Stuttgart is up in the summer if my memory serves me correct. Would be foolish of Fulham if they don't have some sort of first option on him though.
Away support? Well in Russia that can be thousands of miles to travel but for that Fulham lot it's just down the road... He does understand that I hope? Looks a decent player though.
Didn't realise he was on loan from memory I remember 7mil being in the papers but then it was reported he signed for 4mil or is this the figure he can sign for after his loan period. From his last two games looks like good business, if true, don't know what to believe these days.
Missing out on guys like him (though his record in Germany was crap and he may be useless for the rest of the season) and the Cisse Newcastle got is the direct result of having absolutely no scouting infrastructure. We forget that after years of financial plight and mismanagement our club is only now trying to become a serious professional outfit. A proper academy, scouting network and decent training facilities don't appear overnight but at least we are seeing some intent in these areas.
ffc fans have also said wait til we go north, and he will be in for a shook, we will have a decent turn out at villa, but not any where north of there. we paid 400k for the loan with a option to buy at the end of the season, so far so good, it was nice to see him score and celebrate with the crowd, cant remember the last ffc player to do that, when B.z scores he puts his finger to his lips. he is quite refreshing, its early days yet, but we thought he would be crap, and he would weaken our squad, so far so good
I already dont like Zamora, I hate players when they point to the name on their shirt when they score. Clubs are dumping their 30somethings on us and going out and buying better players, we need more Traore like signings and less SWP, Zamora, Barton signings.
B.Z has only really done well at one prem. club ffc, in his first season he was woeful.Zwe nearly sold him to hull and i would of drove him there for free, me and many others. Hodgson coached him well, and to be fair B.Z for has scored some great goals us, some really important ones, shaktar dontesk spring to mind, wolfesburg is another but he does to play off someone, hopefully when cisse comes back that a good strike force, whether they jel in time is another matter
