A positive start from both teams. Free kick was given after an unfair challenge on Bhasera by McLaughlin. Wotton took the resulting kick and the ball slipped between the hands of Neal and landed in the back of the net. 1-0. Shortly after this Chadwick committed a foul on Sharps and received a yellow card. Not to be outdone McLaughlin fouled Bhasera again and found his name in the book. Chances came and went for both teams Lennox (Argyle) saw his shot saved by Neal and Morgan could not direct a header, from a Richards corner to the goal and missed close to the left of the Argyle goal. Later Taylor crossed a good ball into the box and Morgan took a shot. Forcing an excellent save from Cole. The ref then blew for half time. Second Half From the off Argyle pressed forward, Wotton managed to fire a strong shot which was saved by Neal, the resulting corner from Williams was easily cleared by Taylor. Argyle Sub: Chadwick replaced by Tsoumou. Shrewsbury Sub: Wroe on for Jacobson. Collins had a shot for Shrewsbury which went wide before Morgan had another shot saved by Cole. Argyle Sub: MacDonald on Feeney off. MacDonald immediately made an impact, a fierce shot from him struck the post and bounced away. Shrewsbury Sub: Gornell on for Taylor. Shrewsbury then went on the attack, however the closest they came was a long range effort from Wroe which cleared the crossbar. Argyle Sub: Paul Wotton off Hourihane on. MacDonald got booked. Shrewsbury pressed into the extra time but could not find the equaliser and the match finished 1-0. Stats 23 Cole - 8 Another good game from the increasingly effective shot stopper. 02 Berry - 7 Worked hard defensively and stood his ground well. 05 Purse - 7 A good display. 14 Bhasera - 6 Looked largely disinterested on the wing, some good runs though. 22 Blanchard - 7 Some excellent tackles kept the Shrews Strikers at bay. 03 Williams - 7 A good display from the LB. 08 Walton - 6 not the strongest display but picked a few good passes. 19 Wotton - 7 A good goal (if a bit lucky), worked hard in the middle. 21 Lennox - 6 Not so stunning display. A few good runs and tricky for the Shrews to deal with at times. 11 Feeney - 7 Another good shift from the Striker. Ran himself ragged. 29 Chadwick - 6 Looked a bit tired and rarely won the ball in the air. Substitutes 20 Hourihane - 6 No real impact as a late addition. 09 Tsoumou - 6 despite some promise wasted a few chances. 32 MacDonald - 7 Once again fired up the team on his arrival, unlucky not to score. MoM: Williams. Hobo's MoM: Cole. His saves helped Argyle to hold on for the points. Summary An unexpected win against the high flyers. Despite performing a bit under par a victory was gained. I left feeling optimistic about the next game - entertaining Bristol Rovers on Tuesday. COYG!
Better late than never Plym... The report for Bristol Rovers is in the works. Will be posted tomorrow.
I can't remember what happened now........... No seriously a fair observation hobo. Would not necessarily agree re Lennox. He started really well I thought but lost his way well into the match as I think he was tired. He is certainly one to persevere with in my opinion. Despite some peoples opinion I thought it was quite an entertaining game and Shrewsbury were without doubt a decent side which makes the win all the more impressive.
