Nelson saw his header fly just wide from a Luke Young corner and Hourihane had a few crosses in denied by the Morecambe backline. Paul Bignot in his first appearance for Argyle looked strong and got in a good few key tackles. The Argyle defence was sometimes scrappy but seemed to be controlling the ball better when under pressure. Then came the opener, a weak clearence from the Morecambe defence left Simon Walton with the ball at his feet and he despatched it with venom past the diving Roche into the back of the net. Dummond and Alessandra had chances shortly after this to level but were not taken. The ref then blew for half-time. Second half At the start of the half both teams had several attempts either missed or denied. Fletcher missed wide with a strong shot from outside the Morecambe box and Kevin Ellison rattled Larrieu's post with a strong shot. Lecointe came on for Argyle in Place of Sims and Morecambe's Hunter went off to allow Fleming to come on. Shortly following this Alessandra was replaced by Jevons as Morecambe added to their attack. Argyle then replaced Hourihane with Atkinson. For most of the half it was even play though, the ball mostly hung in midfield as both teams tried to find an opener but were denied by the defences. The announcement went up that there where 5 minutes of added time, much to the displeasure of the Argyle fans. It was an omen, not a good one, Morecambe attacked with vigour and were rewarded into the 4th minute of extra time when suspect defending by Argyle left Fenton with the ball from inside 12 yards and he powered it into the net. 1-1. The ref then blew for full time. Argyle Stats: 01 Larrieu - 7 a good performance from "Le Keeper" made some key saves. 06 Nelson - 7 a better game from the CB. Looked more confident. 14 Bhasera - 7 Good all round performance, tackled strongly. 19 Gibson - 7 some iffy moments but some good defending made up for this. 28 Bignot - 8 Excellent debut, a welcome addition, defended well. 04 Fletcher - 7 Good game for Fletcher, despite the yellow card a good performance. 08 Walton - 7 Good goal, looked a little more like a captain and controlled the midfield well. 15 Young - 7 a good display from the winger, needs to work on set pieces but a hot prospect. 20 Hourihane - 7 much better, looked confident and worked hard. 11 Feeney - 8 Held up the ball well and chased every pass, hounded the defenders. 17 Sims - 6 not his best performance, but carried the ball well. Subs: 27 Lecointe - 6 added to the attacking threat controlled the ball well. 21 Atkinson - 6 did not really impact on the game. MoM: Walton, a splendid goal was the main reason for the decision. Hobo's MoM: Between Feeney and Bignot. I'll give it to Bignot for a confident and well played debut. Summary Like many others I felt the 5 extra minutes was questionable however after running it over in my mind, I think Larrieu's time-wasting, as well as the stoppages and subs made it just about the right amount. I was pleased to see JB with his chldren in the directors box. The message to him and the applause from the crowd was heartwarming, lets hope this is the start of a new page in our club's history. COYG!
Thanks for the report as usual hobo. I missed this one unfortunately thanks to doing my back in proping up the prediction league. It sounded as if we did ok and the end was just about typical of the season so far. When Sparksie said 5 minutes I just knew in my heart of hearts what was going to happen. I was gutted and would have been more so if I'd witnessed it first hand.
