Palmer saw his shot following pressure from Burton fly high over the bar. Atkins nearly palmed the ball into his own net while stopping a cross from Hemmings, the resulting corner was cleared easily. The word "Shoot" followed every touch Wotton made and he obliged with an effort that went harmlessly wide. Atkins was on hand to save a Hemmings shot after this and then Walton picked up a booking for a foul on McGrath. After this Zola had a header go wide of the Argyle goal. After a fairly even half the ref whistled for half time. Second Half The seond half started well for Argyle, Walton got on the end of a Luke Young knock back to fire the ball into the back of the net. 1-0. After this though Burton went on the attack, Bolder had a shot saved by Cole and Zola had a header loop over the crossbar. Burton sub: Jacques Maghoma was brought on on for Chris Palmer. Wotton again had an effort go wide and Walton managed to belt his close range effort over the bar. Young had a chance strike the post before Wotton's weak shot was collected comfortably by Atkins. Burton sub: Cleveland Taylor came on replacing John McGrath. Young had another shot blocked by James. Plymouth sub: Craig Sutherland is brought on for Matt Lecointe. Then Burton scored. A free kick looped across the box by Taylor and well kept in by Richards, was knocked in off the head of Zola. 1-1. Both teams then attacked, attempts on both sides came close before an unfair challange by Gurrieri on Hemmings in the box led to a penalty cooly despatched by Walton for his second. 2-1. Plymouth sub: Hemmings off. Soukouna on. The ref then blew for full time. Stats 23 Cole - 7 Looks really confident between the sticks. Needs to claim the ball more. 05 Purse - 8 Tough tackling, powerful display from the centre back. 14 Bhasera - 7 Worked well on the wings. A good performance. 22 Blanchard - 7 A confident display. 28 Bignot - 7 Looks a bit more confident now. Caught out of position at times though. 08 Walton - 8 Captain fantastic this match. Some good play. 15 Young - 9 Impressive play from the youngster. Has come on leaps and bounds these last few games. 19 Wotton - 7 a fairly good debut. hopefully can be the midfield maestro we need. 11 Feeney - 7 Hard working display, got around but struggled to penetrate the defence. 27 Lecointe - 6 Played well but rarely threatened. 31 Hemmings - 8 Another excellent display. Substitutes 10 Sutherland - 6 Added pac to the wing but seemed to drift in and out. 13 Soukouna - 6 No real time to make an impact. MoM: I think I heard Hemmings. Hobo's MoM: Young. A stirling performance, is developing into an exciting prospect. Summary A promising result and a welcome back for Wotton. I left feeling very pleased. If we can be out of the relegation zone by the start of Feb I will feel a lot more confident. However we have some tough games to come and we need to tighten up more at the back to prevent conceding unnecessary goals. COYG!
Thanks hobo an excellent write up.........Young definately deserved to be M.O.M. Blatantly obvious that we need another striker or two..........no penetration........Feeney worked his socks off ........but he is not a big target man........the result is the away defence are quickly returning the ball to our penalty area........causing pressure.
"worked his socks off"........bloody Fletcher puppet. Decent report there Hobo and fair enough. The Walton booking was a bit of a travesty though. He never touched the man and he came off after his "treatment" with a smile across his face which angered the people in the lyndhurst. You could tell he had been faking it. I don't care which commentary you listened to or saw plymborn but it was not obvious we needed more strikers as you keep going on about. No mistake that we created a number of gilt edged chances that were not taken. We could have and should have scored more but simply missed. If we were not creating the chances then I would agree but it was not the case.
I thought you'd like the.......... "worked his socks off"......sensible. But I can't agree with you sensible about a striker........most people were disappointed that Chadwick wasn't playing from what I read.......so different with a good targetman up front..........Feeney works hard and would have benefitted from a big man to feed off of. LeCointe is not a targetman...........and Sutherland is not performing at all...........with a strong striker up front it gives us a strong spine through the centre of the team..........especially for this Division.
We haven't got the funds or the wage capacity for a couple more of anything. We have Chadwick who happens to have an injury. If he is available he will play and what good will another target man be if he stays fit? Feeney is a good "feeder" off a target man and they play well together as I think Le Conte can also do. Sutherland isn't much from what I've seen so far but given a run who knows if he will get better. That is 4 strikers so 2 more will make 6 and we can't afford that. I think the existing can and will score goals and we haven't been short in that department recently.
We've only got one big striker Chadwick......plus Feeney and teenager LaCointe .........the rest are basically wingers. Even if Chadwick is fit there will be spells when it's not happening for him.........thats when you bring on like for like.
