O’Rourke claims that the Black Cats have put in an offer of £2m with the South Yorkshire club to sign their star striker, who has 15 goals this season and scored twice against us in the game at the Stadium of Light in November. Moore - who stands at a mammoth 6”5 - has built up a reputation as one of the best forwards outside the Championship in the last two seasons after a memorable spell on loan at Rotherham last season, and then a successful stint as the focal point of Barnsley’s attack as they, like Sunderland, aim to get out of League One at the first time of asking. You can read O’Rourke’s full report here - let’s just wait and see how this one progresses. Let's hope so. But as they've just seen us flog Josh Maja for 3.5 I can't see them selling him for as little as 2 million quid.
Money and bigger club talks without a doubt - I mentioned it in another thread (as did @monty987 ) - that said - Monty is probably the "reputable" journalist!!
Lot of money in this league £2m - we sold Josh for £1.75m rising to £3.5m I believe - not that this means anything in todays football. If Barnsley need the money they'll sell him - they don't have parachute payments or anything to fall back on so money is the root of all evil for them! I'm eternally optimistic mind and would love to see him at SAFC
So would I. Its just they're also pushing for promotion and with us losing Josh, they might see hanging onto him as gaining an advantage over us. As @Neil Pye said, I think we'll be relying on him demanding the move rather than Barnsley seeing the pound signs.
I think Barnsley have got a few quid, mate. It's going to be up to the player to force a move, I reckon. Josh's contract was running out, different circumstances.
If I was Barnsley I wouldn't sell him to us, unless we offered silly money which I wouldn't want us to do.
Agreed. The lad has form for banging them in the championship, I just can't see them letting their star player come to us.
I take it we don't have any scouts abroad considering that we're looking exclusively at British players, we might struggle to sign anyone decent in that case as our rivals won't want to sell us their best players and there's probably slim pickings from the championship too. I remember Donald saying we weren't going to be signing any flash foreign players but that might be where the value for money is.
Theres a nugget on twitter who says they've accepted a bid from us and wit will be announced tonight - just witing to see the reaming he gets when it doesn't happen! Stupid thing is that it's Phil Smith's paper that broke the news then he tweeted that it won't happen? All bullshit!
Now that Maja is going we'll be linked with every striker ever born. Surprised Monty hasn't lined up Aguero for us,most remiss of him.
We allegedly had a discussion about the possibility of him joining a while ago and nothing came of it. I cannot see a bid being made although I do think he would be a superb signing.
