Please stop calling for wenger to sign the following players (fans and pundits): Chris Samba - Really? We want to win the champions league and the premier league and you want to sign a guy who has never even played for a medium sized club. He is at blackburn for a reason. That reason is he sucks. Gary Cahill - Would be a decent squad player but they want £20m for the guy. He isnt even that good. He cant even get into the england side, and we all know what a terrible team england are. Again, just because all YOU KNOW (pundits and fans) is the premier league then it doesnt mean there arent better players elsewhere. Cahill isnt an upgrade on what we have. Jagielka - see above Scott Parker - this has to be the worst of the bunch. Scott parker player for a relegated team last year. Again he has never played above low level premier league teams (didnt play at chelsea). Quite simply he isnt better than what we have. Just because you believe the media and think he is a great player doesnt make it true. Your probably the sort of people who look at england world cup squad every 4 years and thinks "wow we are going to win the world cup". NO, we need genuine world class players. Not some journeyman. Baines - Ok, I would like baines. But for how much they want it is simply insane. You cant pay that for an average football player. Again so far from world class it is frightening. Do you people calling for wenger to "just spend money" not realise that we actually want to win something. To do that we need some top class players, or players who have the potential to be top class. If they are niether of these then they need to represent good value for money. All the player the pundits want wenger to buy are just so average its unbelievable. The reviews they give all the everton players is remarkable. The media/arsenal fans wnat to buy about 7 of their players. If they are so good then how come everton are a million miles behind the top 6 ? Mind you, most our fans probably thought liverpool did a good piece of business signing a £35m donkey called andy carroll. Lets buy some people who will actually improve us please. I agree that there is a danger of us wanting to sign anyone simply out of desperation. However our squad is the poorest it has been in over a decade and there are many players that would improve it. so whilst I think that we shouldn't go for unsuitable/overly expensive players like Samba or Cahill I wouldn't mind us spending 23 million on Baines. He may be priced but my god do we need a new LB!

OP - I agree with you fundamentally, we should be looking to sign top players not mediocrity, so for that reason I am against us buying the playmaker at Marseille, Jagielka and any other 2 bob player. However you are totally wrong about Samba, a better and more reliable defender in the league you will struggle to find. Premier League experience counts for a lot too. He isn't a pretty defender and this is EXACTLY what we need, a big powerful no-nonsense defender. Him and TV would make a great defence. Even the mighty Barcelona have that in Puyol. Cahill is a good defender, I reckon he could grow to become one of the best English defenders, got pace power and good technique. Certainly better than Jones and Smalling. Baines is better than what we currently have - FACT. Parker is a better Central midfielder (bar Wilshere) than what we currently have - although Frimpong will eclipse him this season.
Such a stupid article. The main reason... well its all subjective is'nt it!! Some people on here think Koscielney is World Class some think he's absolute Rubbish. I personally think both Samba and Scott Parker would be poor signings. Neither are of the required standard. I do however think both Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka would do very well at Arsenal. I think Cahill is the natural successor to John Terry and if we dont sign him he'll end up doing superbly well at Chelsea.
Out of your list I'm only interested Baines. £15-18m would be a cracking bit of business and well worth the investment. He'd strengthen the squad no end and you'd still be able to play Gibbs as and when he's healthy (which is never).
How so? Clichy was in the last year of his contract and wanted a fresh challenge. He'd also gone stale at the club which is something I think even he would agree with. Baines is a very good defender and, unlike Clichy, superb at crossing the ball. He's even a demon at set pieces which is another useful attribute to have. As he's not in the last year of his contract Everton can charge what the like but I think he's worth it.
the board are happy with these players and the money is there but wenger thinks they wont improve our defence just add to it. wenger wanted mata but chelsea offered bigger wages thats why he's going there. we can afford a 30mil player but not the wages that come with one
Absolute Rubbish. He's going there because they bid the amount Valencia were asking for. We enquired and that's as far as it went. Mata would be worth £30 Million no problem, If he comes to Chelsea he'll be one of the best players in the league.
So Mata himself has come out now and said he had the chance to sign for us (and Spurs) but chose not to....
Well... that's even worse. We used to be the most appealing club in London. The fact we sell all our best players and no longer challenge for the league has pretty much put an end to that. Mata will be a huge success.
That's the real b*tch isn't it?! I was pointing out that people were wrong and we had actually gone for him but he chose mon - er, Chelsea over us. Sadly though it's not just for financial reasons that players will choose other teams over us. On another note though why the flip would Chelsea want Modric now?
