Emanuele Giaccherini is “flattered” by the possibility of joining Napoli, said the Sunderland man’s agent.

Rafa Benitez is searching for a new versatile attacking winger after Lorenzo Insigne was ruled out for five to six months by a knee ligament injury.

Italy international Giaccherini is potentially ideal, as the 29-year-old is already familiar with Serie A and played only 140 minutes of football in all competition with Sunderland this season.


“I know their director of sport Bigon and if he wants a player I represent, then he calls me, which he hasn’t done so far,” agent Furio Valcareggi told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Giaccherini gets on well in Sunderland, but he’s flattered by the possibility of joining Napoli and a return to Serie A is also intriguing. Emanuele is similar to Insigne in terms of characteristics.

“If Bigon called, could a deal go through? I don’t know, but when you want to achieve something, you achieve it: there’s nothing holding him back.”

Napoli would ideally bring in Giaccherini on a six-month loan with option to buy, especially as Insigne’s injury lay-off period is six months

Feel for Giaccherini, I think he would have shone this season but injury has wrecked it thus far. Would love to see Giaccherini Alvarez and Johnson behind Fletcher.

I'm not worried.

 

Giacc is too weak. He may be good on the ball, but IMO isn't strong enough for this league.

 

But injury and settling time has kept him from a run in the team. I'll not hang him out on his size until he's had his run in the team as I know small player can adapt.

 

Sums my feelings up perfectly. Looked good early doors, real shame for him.

Can't see this stroy being true as Gus has said he would have been a big player for us if it weren't for his injury.

 

The agent says the Napoli DoS hasn't even rung him about it yet. He's just inviting enquiries, that's all. If Giac doesn't want to go, he won't.
