http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/ne...ver-a-move-for-cardiff-striker-kenwyne-jones/ Premier League side Newcastle United have set their sights on Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones as a possible candidate to replace the departing Shola Ameobi. The news has come in just a matter of days after it was announced that Shola Ameobi would bring his 14 year stay at the club to an end when his contract expires in the summer. It is thought that he will join Steve Bruceâs Hull City. Kenwyne Jones is a possible target for Newcastle United Kenwyne Jones is a possible target for Newcastle United Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones is being lined up as his replacement. Jones joined Cardiff in January from Stoke in a deal which saw Peter Odemwingie moving in the opposite direction. The striker has so far made 11 league appearances for the club whilst scoring one goal. It is thought that he will be amongst the fringes at the club with their recent signing of Javi Guerra and expected signing of Lewis Grabban from Bournemouth. If he does decide to join Newcastle, it has been rumoured that it will cost them around £2 million for the striker. The 29-year old would prove to be an experienced member of the squad having spent numerous years in the Premier League with Stoke City. However, it is unlikely that he would feature as a starting squad member too often
F**k me. I'd pay them £2m and drive him up there myself. Now that is the pi$$ take of the day!!!! Lol!!!
Not sure there is any mileage in this. Newcastle fans will be expecting bigger and better players than an ex sunderland player. £2m! £2 more like. But if it happens then excellent.
waste of space, i knew we never should have offered him anything longer than a 6 month deal. i dread to think what wages he's on.
best case scenario being 25k / week. most annoying thing was its been like a car crash in slow motion for me to watch the whole bloody thing.
Didn't quite get why they sold Gestade for peanuts when he had shown he had the ability to net in the Championship (proven right with Blackburn) rather than loan him out. Plainly he was although inelegant, he gave 100% all the time whereas Jones is the opposite. That could come back to haunt us next season.
Well at least this guy has arrived. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/guerra-deal-confirmed-1567450.aspx
32 years old and a three year deal. An unknown quantity until the season starts but surely his pace will be running out soon. Is he meant to be a target man or a pacy striker? Another HH?
Sheepy - watched a few highlights of his games last season for Valladolid and he seemed pretty up for it to me despite the bad results they were getting. Even in their last game at home when they got beat 1-0 by Grenada sending them down on the last day, he looked as though he was a cut above anything we've got up front at the moment. Mind you, I realise that's not saying a lot given the subject matter of this thread......
