All the pundits say about Johnsons goal is "Mignolet should've done better" (I agree somewhet but it was very well placed) And Gylffi Sigurdsson's free kick - which, had the keeper not moved, was straight at him, was an "amazing free-kick" - Neither should've gone in although the keeper had to work harder for ours as it was behind the wall (walls side) whereas the Swansea one was keepers side and straight at him had he not decided to leave half a goal to aim at!
In actual fact the Johnson one was more difficult to save IMO. The height of Sigurdsson's was perfect and it was pretty much straight at the keeper (had he not made the small movement towards the other side). Ohh well.
The lad is in court in a couple of days. I can see why pundits would distance themselves from piling praise on him(don't necessarily agree). They wouldn't want to look 'pro-AJ' in any way so close to the trial. Mig was a fortunate diversion to pin focus on i reckon.
That was from Terry, man and there's obviously no sign of any biaseosity (yes, it is a real word ) at all (The Mig plays for Liverpool, by the way)
Phil Bardsley was surprisingly hard on Mignolet on Sky (or was it MOTD2?) yesterday I thought. He said that Mignolet had many mistakes recently and that the Liverpool defence would have no confidence in him. You don't usually get players being so frank about other players these days, especially about an ex-teammate.
That's hardly constructive criticism considering Liverpool's defence is utter ****e. Naturally he's going to have more to contend with playing behind a **** defence, and Bardsley was no great shakes either. A solid defender in his day but hardly one to throw criticism around.
Mig looked pretty good before moving though was (iirc) always dodgy at crosses. He has steadily regressed since moving, looks shocking and i think part of the reason for the way they have reported the goals is to have a go at Mig. Honestly who gives a **** what the pundits and hacks say anyway? They're mostly full of ****e - except Shearer of course.
Not enough credit is given to the quality of the kick which was whipping, dipping and swerving in the air which is a nightmare for a keeper of any quality. Bet it has been practiced thousands of times without that kind of result. Now if Ronaldo or Messi had done it.....................................
When it went in it struck me that it has cleared the wall by inches and I honestly thought it had his the outside of the post. Just added a little bit to my original post about other players doing it. Bollocks to the rest of the football world.
It's always been the case though that some players just get lauded to the hilt and others ignored almost. Solano had the best crossing and conversion rates in the league for 2-3 seasons running and all the rags talked about was Beckham. Sometimes it's about consistency, sometimes it's because your face fits but often it's just playing for a "big team" - works both ways though, if they have a bad run they get over-criticised too. Most of the footballing world would have you believe Rooney is washed up and should never play for England again.
