With Nottingham Forrest winning 3-0 away last night, and looking a good outfit in all honesty I think it's safe to now conclude with 16 games to play, we're one of a few clubs in the hunt for 6th spot. I would say anyone down to Watford has half a chance of the play offs. How do you all think we can/ will do? Wins for Brighton and Wigan last night have put them right in the mix.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but unfortunately i don't think we're good enough to get into the playoffs. Reading, Brighton and Wigan all have better squads and i think it will be between them. The only way i believe we could gatecrash 6th place, is if SEB gets back soon and bangs the goals in on a regular basis. I think our first XI can rival most teams, but we have no strength in depth, and no one one the bench to change a game. My prediction is for Wigan to be the 6th team, and we'll end up finishing 12th.
Its a weird one this season, i reckon that 6th is the place we are playing for and are very much in the mix for it. Reading have QPR on saturday so we could well be level on points with them, the big games for us will be against sides like Wigan and Brighton where they are must not lose matches. Funny enough though, I don't really fear the likes of Derby, Burnley or Forest if we did manage to scrape it, so im hoping that the autos go to QPR and Leicester.
I have to agree stretchy.. I would love to be proved wrong and will remain hopeful until the final moments but I can't see us getting the better of Brighton and Wigan over the remaining matches.. Both sides have greater fire power and stronger depth within their squads. I think we will end up drawing too many matches to be able to really compete at the sharp end but will finish the season in a creditable 9th
Isn't it just Crimson, nosebleed time at Portman Road! The last time we had a season with constant flirting for the play offs, 07-08 our away form wrecked the home. Our final two away games if memory serve me right, were at Preston and Wolves, two places we NEVER win at! I too for what it's worth agree with Stretchyboy in that we're not good enough for the play offs, and countless other sides have better squads. The big HOWEVER, is that I have thinking this since August when I saw us play from my perspective sheer garbage at the Madejski. I have been waiting for results to go up the duffer all season ( similarly to Spanish in all seriousness ) however come February and we're STILL RIGHT in the mix with 2/3 of the season gone!
I agree we don't have the best squad but our best eleven can certainly compete so if we avoid too many serious injuries we have a chance..............and besides whatever happens now it been the best season of a good few years.
I want us to finish in the top six but realistically I think we will end up where we are, just outside the play offs in seventh place. Certainly nothing to grumble about if we finish this season in the top ten but I will be a bit disappointed if we drop any further than that given where we are now. Not to say finishing top half hasn't been my aim all season but we would've had a pretty horrible end to the campaign if we drop out of the top ten.
I think the season is going how I predicted and if we do get in the playoffs I think it'll be pretty last minute, give it 5 games and then the teams near the bottom start winning and some at the top start struggling so you never know we could get in there, although I have to say there are some good teams up there. Far better teams than us but under Mick we are consistent so could get in there most other teams seem to blow hot and cold, one thing for sure is no team will want to face us in the playoffs. I think we could be one of those jammy teams who we've hated in the Burley/Royle years were we creep in and maybe go on to win it, even though we're not actually that good a team
