This idea was taken from my ''typical london media'' thread, i said to a Chelsea fan that i've never rated John Terry, i told him he's overrated and the media big him up as a leader which he clearly isn't because he should've been with the England squad a week afte winning the champions league.

He's world class despite being 33.

    As much as people might dislike him you have to recognise that he is a great defender. Individual awards;

PFA Player of the Year: 2004–05
FIFA World Cup Team of the Tournament: 2006
    FIFPro World XI: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009
UEFA Club Football Awards Best Defender: 2005, 2008, 2009[96]
    UEFA Team of the Year: 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009
Chelsea Player of the Year: 2001, 2006

To be in world team of the year 5 times running is special.

I honestly don't think Terry "was" overrated, but for me he's never been anywhere near as good as he was for a few seasons now, he's always been a complete nob though.

Dunno about 5 years but I agree with the point you're making, after the Bridge scandal and Carvalho leaving he's struggled to form a decent partnership with anyone but he was brilliant in the double winning season and has been important this season too.

But I would say Giggs is better at giving women orgasms than JT. :)

    Lumplard.

Limited midfielder who has never been great/world class despite how much the media loves to portray otherwise.

Walcott, Lennon and any other winger who is quick with no end product.

Nasri I think is way over-rated. Scored a couple of good goals for arsenal but I never seem to notice him too much when I watch him play.

Ryan Giggs. A player that was never 'world class' meaning he was never the best lm. He's always been very good but longevity seems to mean more than ability when he's mentioned.

Walcott in the last two seasons. 22 goals and 18 assists. It's nothing compared to proper world class players, but at the same time, saying he has no product is very harsh when you see the stats

This man talks sense! Longevity doesn't mean world class.

Barry, he's just not that good a player.
Lennon, can run fast but puts 15 bad crosses in for every half decent one.
Downing, as above but needs 30 bad crosses, maybe more.
    Messi, just kidding.
Gibson, never understood why he got as many chances as he did when players like Tosic were given next to nothing and then gotten rid of. Must have done something right in training, but I never saw it on the pitch.

Gareth Barry has improved every team he's played in.

One of the most under-rated English Players in living memory.

I'd honestly expect more from a guy with the experience he now has with little defensive responsibility in a top four side.

How can you say Barry Imporvend Manchester City when he was one of many players bought in the same season? At the end of the day, he played well for a short time at Aston Villa, other than that he's been mediocre wherever he's played including for England.

If Barry was really a top midfielder in this league then shame on this league for letting it's standards drop so much, because he can't hold a candle to Scholes, Toure, Silva, Gerrard, Lampard, Essien, Carrick and many others who play and have played in England.
