... so who would/should we bid for? Firstly, I nicked this off another forum, at http://thishabboforum.com/showthread.php?t=24544 to be precise, but I´ll print the list to make conversation easier. Players from the top two divisions who will be free to negotiate with other clubs this summer are; Arsenal Manuel Almunia Aston Villa Brad Friedel Isaiah Osbourne Robert Pires Nigel Reo-Coker Moustapha Salifou John Carew Birmingham Colin Doyle Maik Taylor Stephen Carr Martin Jiranek David Murphy Stuart Parnaby Lee Bowyer Sebastian Larsson James McFadden Kevin Phillips Blackburn Benjani Mwaruwari Blackpool Matthew Gilks Mark Halstead Richard Kingson Paul Rachubka Stephen Crainey Neal Eardley Rob Edwards Ian Evatt David Carney Jason Euell Malaury Martin Keith Southern David Vaughan Billy Clarke Brett Ormerod Gary Taylor-Fletcher Bolton Adam Bogdan Jlloyd Samuel Gretar Steinsson Tamir Cohen Ricardo Gardner Joey OâBrien Mustapha Riga Robbie Blake Johan Elmander Chelsea Henrique Hilario Jose Bosingwa Everton Iain Turner Seamus Coleman Victor Anichebe Fulham Neil Etheridge Matthew Briggs John Pantsil Zoltan Gera Danny Murphy Eddie Johnson Diomansy Kamara Liverpool Sotirios Kyrgiakos Manchester City Shaleum Logan Patrick Vieira Manchester United Edwin van der Sar - RETIRING Gary Neville - RETIRING Owen Hargreaves Paul Scholes Michael Owen Newcastle Sol Campbell Kazenga LuaLua Stoke Carlo Nash Thomas Sorensen Abdoulaye Faye Rory Delap Ricardo Fuller Eidur Gudjohnsen Sunderland John Mensah David Meyler Boudewijn Zenden Tottenham Carlo Cudicini William Gallas Jonathan Woodgate West Brom Dean Kiely - RETIRING Marek Cech Abdoulaye Meite Giles Barnes Simon Cox West Ham Robert Green Daniel Gabbidon Lars Jacobsen Jonathan Spector Matthew Upson Kieron Dyer Zavon Hines Victor Obinna Wigan Mike Pollitt Stephen Caldwell Piscu Daniel De Ridder Wolves Marcus Hahnemann Jody Craddock David Jones Championship Barnsley Martin Devaney Andy Gray Matt Hill Garry O'Connor David Preece Bristol City Louis Carey Lee Johnson Ivan Sproule Stephen Henderson John Akinde Pat Hoban Jimmy Keohane Joe Edwards Danny Ball Burnley Wade Elliott Chris McCann Steven Thompson Kevin McDonald Remco van der Schaaf Cardiff Jay Bothroyd Chris Burke Adam Matthews Gavin Rae Coventry Nathan Cameron Lee Carsley Jordan Clarke Aron Gunnarsson Danny Ireland Marlon King Michael McIndoe Stephen O'Halloran Isaac Osbourne Kieren Westwood Connor Grogan Shaun Jeffers Michael Quirke Crystal Palace Neil Danns Claude Davis Stuart O'Keefe Kieran Djilali Derby Michael Boulding Saul Deeney Chris Porter Doncaster Steve Brooker James Chambers Paul Keegan Dennis Souza Neill Sullivan Wayne Thomas Ryan Burge Byron Webster Sam Hird Hull Matt Duke Craig Fagan Richard Garcia Mark Oxley Nolberto Solano Kevin Kilbane Anthony Gardner Will Atkinson Ipswich Troy Brown Tom Eastman Colin Healy Conor Hourihane Arran Lee-Barrett Gareth McAuley Brian Murphy David Norris Alan Quinn Kevin Lisbie Pablo Counago Leeds Shane Higgs Bradley Johnson Neil Kilkenny Patrick Kisnorbo Richard Naylor Zac Thompson Will Hatfield Leicester Ricardo Aleksandar Tunchev Middlesbrough Julio Arca Danny Coyne Willo Flood Andrew Taylor Millwall Danny Schofield Marc Laird Andy Frampton John Sullivan Norwich Jens Berthel Askou Matthew Gill Josh Dawkin Sam Habergham Matthew Ball Notts Forest Dele Adebola Julian Bennett Robert Earnshaw Guy Moussi Zannetos Mytides Nialle Rodney Nathan Tyson Portsmouth Michael Brown Nadir Ciftci Darryl Flahavan Hermann Hreidarsson Richard Hughes David Nugent Danny Webber Peter Gregory Tom Kilbey Preston Andreas Arestidou Chris Brown Wayne Brown Darren Carter Jamie Douglas Billy Jones Barry Nicholson Neal Trotman QPR Radek Cerny Pascal Chimbonda Heidar Helguson Peter Ramage Martin Rowlands Danny ****tu Georgios Tofas Gavin Mahon Reading Brynjar Gunnarsson Ivar Ingimarsson Hal Robson-Kanu S****horpe United David Mirfin Joe Murphy Eddie Nolan Sam Slocombe Josh Wright Paris Cowan-Hall Ian Morris Sheffield United Ryan France Rob Kozluk Swansea Ferrie Bodde Thomas Butler Dorus De Vries Yves Ma-Kalambay Darren Pratley Angel Rangel Albert Serran Cederic Van der Gun Gorka Pintado Watford Dale Bennett Don Cowie Matt Whichelow Nathan Ellington Rob Kiernan Matt Sadler ------------ From the Prem, I quite fancy Diomansy Kamara. He´s played at clubs that play similar football to us, in a similar role. Giles Barnes? Remember him? Maybe worth a punt... Maybe Neil Danns from Palace too?
Tbh, there arn't a huge amount of players from that list that interest me. Maybe Bothroyd, earnshaw, danns? Anr't many others? Maybe hal robson Kanu?
There are defo some quality players in that list, but about half of them would be no go's due to wages. Also not too interested in Robson kanu, watched him a few times in a wales shirt and he looked poor, although admittedly wales havent been a stellar side of late.
It's a very interesting list and goes to show their could be some serious movement this summer... I think Earnshaw would be cheeky but no one is jumping off the page!
A mate pointed out Billy Jones from Preston and Kyrgiakos from Liverpool. The latter is probably a no-go because of wages but he´s exactly the type of CB we need in my opinion. Jones has shown huge potential for a while, could he make the step up with us? I´d like to see him given the chance...
Hi, new on here so bear with me. Looking at that list the one who stands out to me is Wade Elliot at Burnley. vVery skillful and tricky player. He is the one who does most of the creating for them. Maybe if we are looking for backup for dyer and sinclair. He is worth a punt.
Wade Elliot, decent shout to be fair. Kemy Augustien to have a storming pre-season, settle his differences and fight his way into contention? Ferrie Bodde to come back? Exciiiited!
desperate for a striker, now that borini has gone and left back most urgently. concentrate on these two as priority then strengthen throughout squad where possible. maybe david nugent striker (didnt set world on fire in premiership but achiveable target and scored golas in a struggling team this year), marlon king socres goals but dont know how much i would want him in team upsetting good team spirit, ian evatt did well at blackpool last year but i can see interest from established PL teams and cant pick out a left back from the list that i would be interested in.
How many of us had heard of Fabio Borini, before Rodgers brought him here?? I will wait and see what our Irish Wizard comes up with, I'm sure he will not dissapoint!.................... please log in to view this image Daniel Sturridge was a Rodgers target previously, who evaded us, so you never know! Fingers crossed.............. please log in to view this image
Could be some loans available as well guys, ala Sturridge/Wilshere. As a Liverpool fan who has lived in Swansea for 4 years, Daniel Ayala is a young CB that could possibly do a good job for you. Has apparantly done well in his last two loan spells in the Championship, and the next step for his development would be Premier League experience. Any of you seen him to comment, or would you even be interested? Other possible youngsters from Liverpool would be Martin Kelly, Danny Wilson, John Flannigan and Jack Robinson. Anyway, good luck for next season to the Swans. Will be moving away in a month, but it has been an absolute blast living here in Swansea, and City play beautiful football. So pleased for the club, the fans and the city. I'm backing you to get mid table and possibly sneak in Europe via fair play league
Simon Cox is a good shot in my opinion. Theres a few on there i'd go for but again wages would be an issue with quite a few of them.
It might sound daft but now that Borini's gone, how about Kevin Phillips on a short term contract as our "Fox in the Box"? Always has and still scores goals out of nothing; has Premiership experience to help our lads along; at his age would not cost a bomb and might be worth a season just to help us settle in. We have pace aplenty out wide but we need a goal savvy striker with a poacher's instincts to pick up those pieces in the box. Borini was that type of player and KP would always occupy defences, creating space for others, because they would know he is far too dangerous to ignore. He was never that quick so no pace to lose - his ability is in his positioning, technique and goal awareness. For me, worth a punt at the right price. Burke from Cardiff is another consideration. Tricky, comfortable on the ball, he might dovetail really well with Buck's philosophy and he scores the odd goal. I suggest him as cover for Sincs and Dyer. I'm looking outside the box here because the obvious players that we'd all like to see at the Liberty would cost too much in transfer fees and/or wages. Blooding too many untried youngsters is a far bigger gamble in the Premiership than the NPC so our options will be restricted in that area. On the other hand, too many old warhorses looking for a final pay day won't do it for us either. It's an intriguing situation and I'm looking forward to seeing how Buck & the Board go about it. No doubt, exciting times ahead and important ones too. Getting the balance right is vital. It will make the difference between us bombing straight back down, as many are already predicting, or managing to scramble a foothold and becoming a fixture in the Premiership, albeit amongst the lower echelons of that League. However, before all other considerations, PLEASE, Buck, sign a brick outhouse of a centre back who can help put a stop to our appalling habit of conceding at set pieces. I shudder to think of what Premiership attacks will do to our current set-up. YKIMS.
I know that Reading would be a logical and happy hunting ground - the CB (Mills) is exactly what we need to complement Ash; a couple of options with power in midfield together with canny streetwise forwards; Further afield - Danny Murphy (classy and seasoned with great distribution and maturity); Vaughan (blackpool, welsh and played the spanish way under coleman).....
My first post on this forum and its great to be speculating on how to spend our hard earned! Im with Dragonphiljack, Im sure Brendan will make the right choices and Sturridge would be a steal. I am a little confused however cos do I remember a Dragonphiljack calling Brendon, Brenda the Tealady on BBC606? Same guy slated Hugh Jenkins and even hoped the team would lose a friendly. Still I suppose it takes all sorts. Now that promotions won all sorts are saying I told you so.
I was wondering that! Maybe, although I think to be honest we might as well go in for Bothroyd! He´d suit our style perfectly...
