Players who were welcomed back after stints at other clubs?

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Sep 17, 2011.

  1. I came up with this idea whilst debating with the Arsenal lads, over on their board. One of them said that he expects Fabregas to return to their club after his stint at Barca. I said that there are precedents for players being welcomed back to former clubs after having left to pursue glory-hunting at bigger and more successful clubs. However, the only example I can think of was Teddy Sherringham, who came back to us after having won himself some glory at United. We welcomed him back with open arms.

Of course, in recent times, we've had a few players return to us after having had stints elsewhere, but only Keane left us for arguably a bigger club, and even he didn't win any glory.

Can anyone else think of players (not necessary former Spurs players) who left their club to find glory at a bigger club, found it, and then returned to a heroes welcome to their former club?

I'm Struggling with this one, I must say.

Craig Bellamy sort of...went to find it at City, but missed the FA cup win being loaned out, he was still technically a City player, but apart from that I'm struggling too.

S*l and Jens Lemon back to the Woolwich Wanderers, Defoe and Crouch back to us - Defoe was very warmly received, I remember singing his name against Bolton in 'Arry's first game, long before the window opened, had to feel sorry for Bent.

    Half of Redknapp's signings? <laugh>
    Younes Kaboul.
Peter Crouch, in a very roundabout fashion.
