Got thinking about players who as youngsters looked like they could become superstars yet faded into obscurity. I'm 25 so a few names that come to mind are Danny Cademateri, I remember he was toured as the next great thing as a yougster at Everton, then there was another Everton youngster Francis Jeffers who I believe Arsene Wenger paid over £7m for and dubbed his fox in the box. I saw last week that Giles Barnes was released from West Brom, I remember just a few years ago thw Derby wonderkid being touted by Manchester United.

Anyone got any good examples, or even better SAFC examples.

Martin Smith and Kieron Brady could have been world beaters.

kevin arnott fantastic as a young man actually ran nottingham forest ragged in a 2--0 lead in the first half to a 2---3 defeat should have been a world beater <bubbly>

Gotta be Kieron Brady ain't it?

The mind boggles as to how good he could have been, Martin Smith as well, he really should have done more with his talent.

Matt Piper was another good shout, made out of wet corn flakes, such a same for the lad (and us).

Just watching SSN, surely Michael Owen needs to be mentioned.

If he'd have kept going he'd be England's record goalscorer by 30 or more goals now surely?

Kevin Arnott...I thought he had all the atributes to be a great midfielder, but he never reached the level of which I thought he was capable of.
As previously mentioned: Marangoni never made it for us, but then became player of the year in Argentina after he left us.

Owen, at a young age he was SO good, but after his move to Madrid his career died and the only reason he's playing for United is his reputation from when he was at Liverpool as a clinical striker.

Not sure I agree with Piper.

He definately had potential, skill and tallent.

But it was injury that prevented him from achieving anything.

Who was that kid we had on loan from Liverpool for a wile. Think he was French. He was going to be Liverpools answer to Ronaldo.

Ye Le Tallec that's the one.

Still playing but never lived up to the hype, I remember liverpool fans constantly raving about him. How he was superior to Ronaldo.

    I suppose Bellion is another.

Theres also some of the players Boro signed.

    Massimo Maccarone
Afonso Alves, I was gutted when they signed this bloke, really wanted us to go for him.
