Here is a topic to munch on while you wait for the press to make up a new angle on rumours.

In the premiership era, who are the players you think defined the reign of each of LFC's manager:

    For example:

    Evans:

I think in many ways Neil ruddock defined the riegn of Roy Evans, indisciplined and a hero for a goal in a 3-3 draw.

I think Roy evans built his side round 3 LFC youths. Redknapp, Mcmanaman and fowler. He had Rush and barnes as players who stuck in there from our last great side. His best signing in my view was Patrick berger who if you look at his goals he really contributed. Other like scales, mcateer or even ince flattered to decieve

    Houllier

I think in many ways the one guy who defines Houllier is Hyppia, defensive minded coach who bought best at the back.

Houllier bought well at times, Hamann, hyppia, henchoz for example. But three stand out again and youths Carragher, gerrard and owen.

I think hyppia was his very best buy closely followed by hammann.

    Rafa:

I think rafa's reign is defined by Xabi Alonso. one of his first buys and the player who when pushed out defined the fall from grace too.

Rafa really had his success eaerlt in his reign and it was gerrard who brought it. It was not til 2008 that torres came and 2009 when alnso returned to fitness after having chelsea target and injure him.

Rafa's best buys for me were alonso, torres, mascherano. the rest were very mixed. a lot of deals and a lot of kids came and went.... actually rafa is really defined as having bought the youth and setting up an academy but never putting a kid through.... maybe unfiar given how non were good enough eh?

    Agent Woy:

Agent Woy's defiend by Paul bloody knochesky, weak willed, cowardly, past it beforehe arrived. Lts say no more.

Its hard to say if he bought meireles or he was a rafa target and purslow did the buying but its dafe to say poulsen and konchesky are down to the idiot

King Kenny: this is all about one name he utterly defines the rise and fall. Saurez

One cup, tears of joy and total controversy. Most of the buys were far too expensive and total wastes around that but thats why he only lasted 18months. Sorry but 7th is not an excuse. suarez saga, badly judged comments and total waste of 55mil on two players is why he went

He backed kelly as a youth and looks to have picked a good un.

    Rodgers:

thus far rodgers would hope his career will be defined by coutinho.... could be his best if he stays as manager for 10 years.... but equally it could be allen or the like.

one year in and the contrast in windows is stark.... summmer disasters, winter wonders.... summer squad players..

yet he could be defined by a number of youths he's put faith in. is there a mcmanaman, fowler, owen, carragher or gerrard in the likes of wisdom, stelring, ibe or suso?

thoughts? don;t fixate too much on that last 3 years guys... look back and reminisce.

  2. Roy Evans:

I'd say Mcmanaman define his reign; free flowing attacking football with only a little attention to defence. A 'we will score more than you attitude'. I was tempted to say Fowler here. His best buy for me was Berger too <ok>

    Gerard Houllier:

Henchoz sums up his reign for me; unattractive but solid, tight and effective. Very little doubt in mind mind that Hyypia was his best signing #bargain #legend

    Rafael Benitez:

?I'd agree on Alonso for summing up his reign; good tactical football based on quick passing and, although not so much a Alonso characteristic, counter attacking football. Was tempted to say Gerrard or Torres here too, former for the power and determination, the later for his pace, skill and technique (Alonso falls into technique too). Also tempted to say Kuyt for his work ethic <ok>

    Roy Hodgson:

I think Konchesky is harsh, he was just plain wrong for us and should never have happen but I don't think anyone expected it to be quite as bad as it was. Poulsen is a better representation of Roy's reign IMO; a negative footballer that concentrated on keeping the ball away from goal before anything else. His best signing has to be Meireles purely because he was the only one that wasn't a complete failure <laugh>

    Sir Kenny Dalglish:

I'm going to get shouted at here so I'll add that Kenny is a club legend who I will love until the day I die, but I think Andy Carroll sums up his reign; a typical 1980's style centre forward! Although we played some good passing football it was a bit predictable too at times too. His best signing was Enrique IMO, cheap but very good player for a much needed area of the pitch. I'm not saying Suarez because although Kenny gave the go ahead, I think the credit belongs with Comolli who had scouted Luis for a while before Kenny joined.

    Brendan Rodgers:

Bit of a strange one but so far, I think Henderson sums up his reign; someone that works hard for the team but also has good technical ability and believe possession is more important than life! Coutinho is without doubt his best signing and probably represents the future of BR at Liverpool <ok>

Roy Evans - The Spice Boys...!!! Redknapp, Fowler, Macca etc... Jeez i shudder when i think about them now...

Gerard Houllier - Hamman, Hyppia, Henchoz, Ziege and Berger - even though he didnt buy him, and Gary Mac... We were a big side in the middle of the park with GH, and it suited his style really, its not like we didnt win owt under him, we did. Just not the one we wanted... Gary Mac was inspired for that one season that vrought us all that success... Got to give him that one...<applause><ok>

Rafa Benitez - Alonso, Mascherano, Reina and Torres... Not that every Spanish player made the grade, Josemi, Nunez <whistle> he did bring us a team that could compete at all levels... Will prob be thought of as the one who should have brought us the league but came up short... Fact...!!! Voronin wasnt one of his best moves either...!!!

Roy Hodgson - Poulsen sums up his little reign at Anfield...!!!

King Kenny - Im afraid its not the people who he bought that will define his latest spell at the club but the antics of one player that will nail him to this managerial time. Suarez...!!!

Brendan Rodgers - To me its a bit earlier to tag one or two players that define him but Andy Carroll will be the first one to be mentioned when his time is up and he moves on from us. The fact he came out and said no thanks Andy from the very beginning signaled the end of what Kenny had done and meant we started with a new team and a new way of playing...

    Good little thread this one...<applause><cheers>

yeah that was a smart move!

managers should be banned from bringin in players they "know" from former clubs.

walters to poulsen two different eras same result!
