I thought it would be an interesting exercise to show how even the best Leeds mangers can get it wrong for example Brolin and Lee Sharp cost 9M between them and were a complete waste of money bought by Wilko Okon, Roque Junior bought by Venables Seth Johnson cost 39M PLUS 35k a week totally useless and probably cost us a place in Euro Final John Humphreys bought from Shrewsbury to solve our goalkeeping problems after letting in 16 goals in first 3 games never played again manager Taylor I seem to remember Hunt Kebbie Cameron Stewart McDermott Warnock everyone except Tongue Pearce and his name sake the rest were next to useless and had no takers when we wanted rid I think on the whole Grayson had the greatest success rate since Revie with McCormack 10m profit Clayton500k profit and others I'm sure you lot will remember It just shows how one mans meat is another mans poison how many of the 12 players we have just signed will be successful I will stick my neck out as is my custom and say the following will be Cooper Bellusci Bianchi Sharp Silvestri Beradi the rest I will reserve judgement Lets have your views MIKE
Neil Collins is the first player that comes to mind when it comes to crap players. Paid £500k for him and sold him to the Blunts in January. I don't think we paid money for him but Jody Morris was an absolute waste of our time. Danny Cadamatri we had for a couple of weeks and got rid of him, Ricketts was crap but we only got him in the Viduka deal with Boro.
Even though he was a free transfer, Bessone has to be up there with the biggest waste of money for us and many other clubs he's been at!
how about David Livermore who was a the club for a week then sold him to Hull. Still don't understand that 8 years later
Not remembering Peter Barnes as an epic failure. Alex Sabella set nothing alight given the hype at the time.
Peter Barnes was a classic example of a complete waste of money I remember it so well we needed at the time a centre forward years later I asked Allan Clarke why he had bought him when we clearly needed a striker he said that he was buying Barnes and a strike from abroad but the deal fell through such is life and with Allan went your job! Rocastle I thought was a very good player but got injured and so we didn't see the best of him and he sadly died at a very young age Another waste of space costing 4.5m Duberry bought by OLeary along with Johnson infact I blame the wastefulness of OLeary for the demise of the last few years he bought a lot of overpriced dross
Mike 60 I can't agree regarding DoL because he never set the price. Ridsdale did the negotiations and at the time of the Dubarries and Johnsones the conversation between manager and chairman went like this (And you will know what I'm talking about) DoL when can I get some gold standard players in? PR right now I can only get you silver standard but do a job and before long we'll be going after gold. So taking the over inflated price out you have silver players for gold prices and that's the crux of the problem. DoL did get gold a season later on onwards but the wages and mortgaged prices for the silver boys hurt us in the end.
Barnes was a massive failure for us as a striker, didn't we pay a record price for him at the time? Robbie Fowler another big fail. Roecastle was supposed to be Strachans replacement but he went on for another 2-3 years, I believe it was injury and Strachan that kept him out.
Overpriced, overpaid failures? Too many to list them all, but let's go for Huckerby & Fowler. We only signed Huckerby 'cos he scored 3 against us, even though he was triple-marked. Did nothing. Signed Fowler because of his excellent career to date. Did nothing.
Glad to hear that, Mike. Is that the end of the road, op-wise, or have you got more to endure? Hope Mo had a crackin' birthday on Thursday, btw. Would have posted, but was stranded in Thomas The Tank Engine Worls without internet or specs.
Great tread 60 but I'll only give myself a bloody headache remembering the useless garbage we've signed. Like a retirement home for over the hill footballers to top up their pensions
Hi Neil Thanks for your concern I did have a thorough clear out again and I must say I didn't feel a thing I congratulated the surgeon and told him he had improved a lot from last time when I thought he was a butcher.I told the nurse that my blood pressure maybe a little high as I had at least 2 bottles of red for Moes birthday when she checked it she said its perfect carry on drinking!
