I know he is now playing in the Blue Square Premier (How?), and I know Lines had taken his place in the team, but he was a useful player who scored goals, worked hard and didn't really do a lot wrong. But Trolls saw fit to release him when we still needed him I think. He was replaced by the invisible man, Dominic Blizzard.
I think the problem here was not so much the getting rid of Disley, but the lack of a good replacement. I liked Disley...one of the few who could head a ball! He could ghost into the area at key times. He was however becoming a fringe player. Trollope's failure was in signing the abysmal Blizzard!
disley was a good player for us. we have lacked that attacking midfielder who actually scored goals and he did score some crucial goals. he could have done another season with us but PT thought he could get better and knew lines was breaking through. but lines for me wasnt anywhere near the standard that disley was. disley simply wasnt replaced. we have missed his goals from the middle of the park who took pressure off the strikers. in hindsight phillips, elliott and disley was released too early. but if they were properly replaced then we would have been ok. but they all were not replaced and thats basically the spine of the team. the spine is the most important part of the team. as soon as ward arrived he sorted the spine straight away - mildenhall, mcchrystal, o'toole and brunt. if only buckle and mcghee understood the spine should have been the priority like ward done.
