As fans, we have very little idea what goes on in the financial side of the Toon.

I'm a firm believer that in each of the three big transfer stories we should really calm down.

Carroll: Would he have been sold for £10 million? Doubt it.
Barton: He was NEVER offered any extension, so decided to mouth off.
Enrique: He has never engaged with the club on contract so what are they to do. Till today NO offer has been received ( and it could be 4/6/8 million according to which paper you read).

The club has to buy who will come ( some don't necessarily want to come!!) and those available at the right price. So let's all calm down and wait till the season starts and the dust settles on the transfer window. We're all in the dark and only see Ashley maximising opportunities.

Me personally, I think the French lads are a breath of fresh air.........from what I've seen ( at Darlo), they are quick, talented and young. All in our favour.

    Agreed.

I love how the media can't resist labelling NUFC as a club in crisis after what's happened.

As long as we bring in good replacements I don't mind how the club operates its transfers.

Also throw in Nolan's transfer as well. Captain "loyalty" Nolan had 2 years left on contract and decided to leave to a Championship club for a longer contract and for more money. He would not have been a starter and probably in a couple of years would have been the "new" Smudger. I don't have a problem with that sale either.

Hands up everyone who wants another "Smith" player on the books. Didn't think so.

    I agree.

Finally, a bit of optimism for once. Too many doom and gloom threads these days.

Im sorry mate but the Carroll money isnt being reinvested which is the issue, not that he went for a big price. He may as well had been let go for free.
If the £35 mil had been made to build a team then the sale wud have been cracking. But it doesnt look like it. Just a fact, not pessimism.

When has Barton not mouthed off? he has done a lot worse in his time at NUFC. He finally sorted himself out, had his best season ever....then gets ****ed off! What?! Farcical.

I actually want Enrique to go as soon as possible for about £10 million will do nicely. Hes above average at best......but unfortunetly, this money wont be invested in the team either. Thats the issue with JE. Just like AC.

In one of my other articles, what wud u do with £50million?

We shud be absolutely ****ing laughing right now. £50 million for Carroll, Nolan and Enrique?! Yes please!!! U imagine that playing on Footy Manager. Think of the team you wud build.......but what r we doing?

Optimism is good. I am actually a very optimistic person on all things Toon. But im not in denial about the reality.

    just saying.

    keep smiling. :D

totally agree im still feeling optomistic for the new season benny cabeye marveux all looked incredible when ive seen them play in preseason! i still think if we can replace barton with barnetta and jose with mbengue we're on for top 10 and 7th at an extremly optomistic push... having said that i think it hinges on demba ba staying fit and carrying on his west ham form

Yes we would probably have a more technical, youthful and creative team ON PAPER, but we have lost all of the grafters, and the guys who kept up the team spirit last season, which was a massive part in our promotion and in our comfortable survival.

Carroll, Nolan and Barton in particular are the guys who kept everyones head up, and lead by example last season and they have been ripped away from us, now we are left with good players granted but players who still need to adapt to the english game, who have no real affection towards NUFC and in the frenchies we have players who's heads will undoubtedly go down if we hit a rough patch in the season.

A few injuries to some key guys and we could be looking at a very tough time staying up this season and we wont have our battlers to pull us out of the ****.

And if we do go down we wont have the Nolans, Bartons, Carrolls etc... to bring us back up, and no Chris Hughton to guide us.

sorry completley agree that worries me too at times it was joey and kev who got the team by the scruff of the neck and forced everyone to perform
the fact we only seem to be selling english players is what worries me the most though...we're only left with taylor simmo and possibly harper in our starting XI which is quite sad and i fear we'll end up like arsenal

Yep, they certainly did, and to be honest I was never Nolan's biggest fan, I thought what he brought in the goal scoring area was out shadowed by his poor CM play, but he had that gritty determination about him that I cant see any of the new guys having, Barton IMO was more key to the team that Nolan was because Barton is great at what he does, whether its in CM or RM you know what you get with him and thats consistency, a strong presence and plenty of clever passes and assists.

Basically the strong english backbone and core of the squad has been taken away from us and I feel we could suffer heavily because of that, which of the players in the team at the moment could you say are going to step up and take the game by the scruff of the neck? Theres very few if any.

All we can do is hope and pray that the board at least see some sense and buy us a couple of proven players with a bit of Barton-esque grit in them, and we might just live to fight another prem season.
