During the game between Chelsea and Paris St G Chelsea players actually influenced the decision of referee in sending off Ibrahimovic. please log in to view this image Please vote Yes or No
Never a sending off. In fact oscar studs were higher up than ibra's who had retracted his legs to avoid a two footed challenge. Ridiculous red card. The Chelsea players crowded the referee and were a total disgrace. That they lost against the ensuing 10 men made this episode even more humiliating.
On this occasion tbf I think the ref had rightly orwrongly made his own mind up fairly instantly that Zlatan was a goner. Plus In this instance In real time i can understand why the ref gave it, as it looked bad. It does underline need for replays.
He pulled the red card out within a second or 2, despite their nonsense protests, he'd already decided to send Zlatan off. Terrible decision.
whether or not he was influenced surrounding the ref is designed to pressurise and was a deliberate tactic mourinho set up himself. if not this incident then he'll think they'll be on me the next incident. very few refs instinctively go the other way...... martin atkinson is one who goes after sides who antagonize him.... but a kevin friend or michael oliver will roll over every time
I agree, but I think it's unfair to isolate Chelsea on this one. Most of the 'Big' clubs seem to specialise in it. You lads are no different, United and Arsenal the same.
I think we're actually very good. When do we ever have more than the captain and the player involved speaking to the ref? Our position at or near the top of the fair play league for the last few seasons also bears this out.
Did we influence the ref? No, the red card was out of the pocket before a Chelsea player even made a peep. Were we trying to influence the ref? Heck yeah, only one reason you would surround him like that. Not sure what they hoped to achieve, since the player had already been (wrongly) sent off. but hey.... Also this is something we see every week in the PL. United do it, Arsenal do it, Liverpool and Everton have done it........
Sure, teams argue their case but very few have five players surrounding the ref, never mind the whole outfield team! Man Utd used to be master at it under Fergie, they still harass but not in the same numbers. Chelsea are the master now and do it most weeks. Nothing you can say will make me think that all ten of those players would do something like that naturally or off their own back. Mourinho tells them to do it. also, if you watch Oscar when he goes down he's only spinning slightly, he adds a few few rotations himself to add to the effect. and no, the ref hadn't got the card out before the Chelsea player surrounded him, he fought them out the way as he tried to approach Zlatan whilst still trying to get the card out his pocket. I have no doubt the referee had already made up his mind though.
At speed and from a distance, it looked a bad challenge, because of the speed Ibra was moving at. I initially thought, "Oh that looked bad", wasnt until i saw the slow mow replay that I saw that he didnt even hit Oscar with his foot, he withdrew his foot and hit him with his shin, on the back of Oscar's calf. It was late and fast, and was a foul. A yellow would have been harsh, a red was insane! In situations like that, if the ref didn't see it properly because it happened too fast and/or he was too far away, then he should give the offending player the benefit of the doubt. The ref failed to do this. Don't see why they dont allow refs to watch a slow mo replay, would literally take 30 seconds. Ridiculous
I don't blame the referee for the situation at all, especially from the angle he saw it. The ref was convinced that Zlatan had connected with Oscar to send him into such a spin but it was Oscar that spun himself.
I dunno - it looked like an uncontrolled challenge to me, and the type that even here, never mind in Europe, they're trying to eradicate. When Markovic was sent off for vaguely wafting his hand in the direction of the Basel player most of us un here accepted it as the way things are in Europe. The reaction of the basel player at the time, and that of Oscar, are just the unfortunate result of the way things are.
