Clarke praised his players for the character they showed against Wrexham, as they recovered from the setback suffered in defeat at Briantree over the weekend. Clarke said: "It is a thankless task at the minute because we are not expected to lose at the likes of Altrincham and Braintree. It is tough to be a Bristol Rovers players at the minute because there is an anxiety around the place. I can feel it in the dugout and the players can feel it on the pitch, but that's football and we have to find ways to overcome that. If Bristol Rovers are losing a football match we know we are going to get stick during and after it. I understand that because I know the supporters have had to put up with a lot and it has been hard for them. It is where we are at, but I think a lot of these players will prove their worth in time. We have to put the shutters up in the changing room and ignore what is going on outside. It is about being strong and bouncing back from the hiccups because sometimes they can fester. If we can get on a roll over the next four or five games and make some progress up the table, I'm sure that the fans will get on board with us." http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/ll-wor...says-Bristol/story-22908120-detail/story.html
is it effected or affected? i always get the mixed up. i tried reading up on it but it made me more confused
Bristol's quite a tough place for people to play because apparently we're quite negative bunch and this rubs off on the players. That's why so many players don't do well in Bristol and then go somewhere else and thrive. It's pretty much the same on both sides of the city in that respect. Quite a few managers have commented on it and you only have to look at how many decent players have lost their confidence here and then gone off somewhere else and done well to realise that there's something in it. Having said all that, if it really was a problem then our away form would be brilliant compared to our home form...
Zebroski was another who got a lot of stick in games. He went on to do pretty well after with Newport. I just tried to find his goal away at Torquay where he went on a long run from our own half and he scored past his former club. We went 2-0 up in that game but ended 2-2. Trying to find that goal I cam across the bbc page about this game. Look who scored both of Torquays goals!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17243545
Chris Lines took a lot of stick, but he was one of our best players and went on to play for Sheffield Wednesday with distinction. Marcus Browning was another one. Adam Barrett did much better after he left us too.... So did John Still for that matter...
Sounds absurd but i'll say it anyway- ha ha We lose away, team/manager get sick - we win at home. Maybe its working, we knock city fans but they don't stand for any crap and let their team know it. We on the other hand are mainly known to be patient (as we tumble down the leagues). As we continue our dive and hit all time lows the apathy might just be disappearing. BTW - i'm not condoning abuse etc, and i myself am a happy clapper at matches. I just thought it was worth throwing in the mix. UTG
affected Even in the Conference a lot of these players are paid far more than the average wage. They're doing something we'd all love to do as a job. If it's evident that they're not pulling their weight then they deserve stick from us long-suffering Gasheads. However, their treatment pales into insignificance compared to the persecution that the likes of Fontaine and Johnson Jnr received at the hands of the Teds. Fontaine's still wiping the spit out of his hair!
i was thinking while i posted this thread that you would think the players would struggle more at home as more many creating pressure?? would have thought less pressure being away from home as less gasheads! i believe sometimes our atmosphere has become poisonous. i really bothers me when some fans chuck abuse at a player for making 1 mistake. get behind and encourage them. i believe we do create pressure on the players but i would have thought there would be more pressure on them when they play at home!
They as pro's know the form surely. Overpaid pansies springs to mind. F7ck me if they cant take the pressure time for a change of employment me thinks for some. On the other hand toughen up make things happen by pulling together as a TEAM and show serious commitment and get on with winning games not winging about FANS. Do what you are paid to do, real pressure comes from real jobs, not being a low level footballer who is no doubt over paid. Remember these players are only a few leagues up from window cleaners factory workers postmen who play for fun and pea nuts, oh no they are not I seem to recall a few teams containing real workers have turned us over a few times so far this season.
