QPR were the architect for their own downfall once again this season. Djibril Cisse got himself red carded for attempting to strangle Roger Johnson, an event which changed the match. QPR looked well on top for the entire first half and were unlucky not to go in more than 1 goal to the good. However a quickfire equaliser at the start of the second half followed by a period of sustained pressure resulting in the second, meant inspite of an excellent last 15 minutes, QPR got nothing from this game. Kenny 8 - another good game, couldnt really do much about either goal Young 7 - good performance but was turned for Wolves first goal, however once again offered a genuine attacking threat Onuoha 8 - Looks completely assured both at cb and left back, could possibly be the best buy we've made this season Ferdinand 7 - looked good throughout the game, controlled ebanks blake/frimpong throughout. plays better when paired with onuoha than hall or gabbidon Taiwo 5 - an out of sorts performance, on the one hand looks strong in the tackle, yet doesnt have the pace at the moment to keep up with the game, needs a few more games to get upto full fitness Barton 6 - controlled the centre of the pitch well yet someone really needs to tell him how to cross a ball. set pieces looked better without him taking Derry 6 - a typical derry performance, yet as he has done for most of the season, just looks a little bit too slow for the prem SWP 7 - as one of swp bigger critics i was pleasantly surprised by his performance, his layback or rather heavy touch set up the goal, and in the second half he actually attacked players however as has been proven once again this season, he can only play well when Taarabt plays as it creates space for him Taarabt 9.5 - definetly one of the best individual performances i have seen from a QPR player this season, may well have been one of Taarabt's best ever in a QPR shirt. most importantly though he was instantly back to help defend on every occasion. Looks like Warnock choice to leave him out till he became a team player will result in a lasting legacy. Cisse 3 - great opening 35 mins, then a completely stupid decision. if you grab a player face, its a straight red, no argument. Cisse needs to mature because when he was on the pitch, it looked like we could have beaten Wolves by 4 or 5. Zamora 7 - good opening debut, not quite as good at holding the ball up or as dominant in the air as Helguson but a much better finisher and a more rounded player Subs Hall 6 - not bad but not great from one size, is a serviceable substitute cb but nothing more Traore 6 - made several good runs, best position is definetly as a left winger Hulse 5 - was on for our brightest 15 mins but i cant really recall him creating a chance or having a shot Manager Hughes 8 - good tactical choice, team looked great for first 35, defensively we looked solid but missed the extra man Referee Clattenburg 3 - can have no complaints for him sending off Cisse, yet Johnson should have gone as well and several other Wolves and QPR players should have been booked in the first half. Bassong as lucky to be on the pitch. Was inconsistent which is possibly the worst thing a referee can be
On the whole I agree with the ratings. The only real disagreement is with the marks for Cisse. He overreacted but not half as much as the referee did. I don't know which planet Clattenburg lives on. At most, Cisse was ill-disciplined. He did not try to strangle Johnson. He pulled his beard. Clattenburg saw the whole incident. He clearly had a judgment to make and got one half of it hopelessly wrong. A bad challenge by Johnson got the yellow card it deserved. The reaction of Cisse (who clearly thought that pulling his beard was the only option available to him as he had left his handbag in the dressing room) deserved no more than that. Referees are supposed to use their common sense. It was early in the game and his lack of judgment for the justice of the situation and the match itself, led to the game being ruined for Rangers and any neutral observer. Let's not forget that Cisse was the victim at the time not the aggressor. The aggressor got the yellow and the victim a red. How does that pan out in the scales of justice? The aggressor's team took all 3 points in a game where they were on a hiding to nothing. The victim's team played the rest of the game with one man less and, guess what, lost. Well done Mark Clattenburg. You have forgotten that your role is to referee a sporting contest so that the best team on the day can win. Your role was not to take the starring role by changing the course of the game. If anyone tells me that the rule that you do not raise your hands is absolutely strict and that the ref had no discretion to interpret the incident with a degree of understanding of what had actually happened, that person is as much an idiot as Clattenburg was. It completely changed the balance of the game. Full credit to Wolves and McCarthy in particular, for going for it after that gift from the ref. Finally, I would just like to say that Adel was absolutely terrific today. Welcome back. He will save us singlehandedly on the evidence of today's performance. Will his knockers on this forum now please stand up and admit that he is the best player we have by far and that it will be disastrous for the club if we do not invest some faith in the guy. As many people have said, including dear old Neil last year (several times) it won't work all the time but that does not mean he should not be encouraged to keep trying. SWP should take note. It's worth having a go even if you do look like a prat once in a while.
i thought adel played well in the last 20 mins when he was moved in the middle. he has so much skill and vison. swp was afull. everytime he had the ball he couldnt cross.
Just got back and was watching the city v foolham game, dembele and kolorov squared up to each other with their heads touching and both walked away with yellows..... Wheres the cosistancy from these refs? They say it's the letter of the rules yet don't always use them.
