The Second World War Charlton Athletic played no officially recognised matches between May 1939 and January 1946. The first three 1st Division matches of the 1939-40 season were expunged from the records after the Leagues were closed down. As it happens, Charlton did not give debuts to any new players during those games. The first officially recognised peacetime match Charlton Athletic played in was the Third Round (1st leg) of the 1945-46 FA Cup. Season 1945-46 ... ** FA Cup only ** ... 7 players (207 to 213)
Glad you like it I'm really enjoying compiling these, as I'm learning lots about every player as I'm going along. Most of the information is coming from Colin Cameron's excellent 'Valiant 500' book (though I am not copying any descriptive sections word for word) but I am also using as many online sources as I can find to add more details.
Season 1948-49 ... 5 players (229 to 233) A word about flags; The national flag for each player is the one used by their country of birth at the time they were born. In the case of South Africa, the national flag shown on the profiles of Sid O'Linn (227) and Dudley Forbes was changed in 1928 to the one shown on the profile of Albert Uytenbogaardt (231). That flag was then used until 1994.
