I see Modric has not turned up for training at Spurs presumably to try to force his transfer.

Question do players have too much power these days? Modric is on a contract. If I fail to turn up for work I get disciplined and eventually fired. Thses big nane players consistently flout the rules and in the main seem to get whatever they want.

How would we all feel if a Saints player behaved in that way?
 
You've answered your own question. If Modric (or any player) doesn't turn up, they can't fire him because that's what he wants. He is a monetary asset and in the end they have to get the best deal they can. Luckily, most players wouldn't go this far unless treated very badly by a club (and Modric can't say that).
I would hate it if it was a Saints player though, because it's like a personal betrayal. And you would also begin to wonder if something is wrong at the club...you know how panicky Saints' fans can be.
 
Man City had a golden chance to redress the balance of power between player and club over the Carlos Tevez affair, and for a while it looked like the club would stand it's ground and ensure the Argentinian faced the consequences of his behaviour. But they capitulated, and won the league.
 
I think all player contracts should be 'pay as you play', maximum base wage of £5k a week.

It'd mean players have a huge incentive to make an effort and it'd stop superstars joining clubs purely for the wages and to sit in the reserves *cough* Michael Owen.

It'd mean a fairer spread of talent across the leagues, clubs with managable wagebills and in turn, cheaper tickets for the fans.

Sadly it's a rule that'd need global approval otherwise all the bet talent would just piss of to whichever league hasn't signed up.

This is a brilliant idea, but can you imagine the uproar from Citeh etc? Won't happen because they will protest, and of course, being the media darlings and all that we bow down to them
 
The first teamers wouldn't complain, say if they get along the lines of £50k appearance fee, £20k goal fee etc, they'd still be getting the sillymoney they get now, it's the ones who can't even make the bench that'd kick up a fuss.

The knock on effect would be that clubs would have a squad of about 15 top players making big money then the rest of them kids (or seniors rarely earning the bonuses).

The status quo would probably still remain, Man City/Chelseaand the likes could still offer up the biggest bonuses but the likes of Santa Cruz would never be caught in this comfortable limbo, hed be playing week in week out for a mid table club rather than sitting around making (relatively speaking) next to nothing.
