So its that time of year again, seems a tad early this year, what with here still being 11 games and two months of the season remaining, but none the less its time to vote for this years player of the season http://www.canaries.co.uk/page/NewsDetails/0,,10355~2635184,00.html Also, for your viewing pleasure here's the list of previous winners http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwich_City_player_of_the_year#List_of_winners So will we see the first ever triple winner in Holt? Personally I don't think its so much of a forgone conclusion as it has been the last couple of years as a number of players are seriously in contention. I see the main contenders being: Holt - leading goalscorer as well as numerous assists Pilkington - 7 goals in 21 games from midfield Martin - cracking season spent playing out of position Whitbread - when fit, by far our best defender Ruddy - number of brilliant displays against the big sides Fox - Unsung hero pulling the strings in midfield I've gone for Ruddy myself. Some of his performances this season have been brilliant. The points picked up against Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton in particular owed a lot to him. He's proved a lot of doubters wrong this season and I hate to bring it up again, but an England call up surely won't be far away.
Ruddy has been excellent this season and can be incredibly proud of how he's performed, but for me personally he wouldn't even be in my top three. Not quite sure what order yet, but my top three are Holt, Whitbread and Pilkington
Fox, Martin and Pilkington haven't been consistent enough for IMO and Whitbred hasn't played enough games. For me it's a three horse race between Ruddy, Holt and Naughton whom you seem to have overlooked. Last year I voted for Ruddy and I was a bit sceptical when Holt and Hoolahan got first and second - it showed a bias to attacking players but this year I think Holt deserves it, and I will be voting for him although the other 2 have done fantastically well. We might just see our first triple winner, and this time I think he really deserves it.
I did consider Naughton, but IMO whoever wins it should be signed to the club and not a loan player. Thats not to take anything away from Naughton's performances this season, he's been fanatstic, but it doesn't seem right giving the award to a loan player. I had the same opinion when people were calling for Fraser Forster to win it when were in league one.
Ruddy is leading the pack for me, but Holty is a big, big shout! I agree with Dazz about Naughton, some clubs vote for a loan player even when they've only played a handful of games I'll hold fire till nearer the time, but I think I'll stick with Ruddy!
What a marvellous thing to read first thing on a Saturday morning Classic - cue a response from JWM!!
It shows how the season can change. First couple of months I thought Tierney and Pilkington were nailed on to fight it out. Morison in the next couple but I really think Ruddy deserves it over the course of the season.
Tierney would be in my top three if it wasn't for injury but I feel Martin, fox and pilkington deserve to be in the top three.
just shows what a TEAM we have when so many can be considered for pots, just as last year. for me, pilks shades it over holty and ruddy and........................!!!!!!!!
Will we see one of your excellent match threads this week CS ? We'll probably be talking to ourselves as the Wigan board is like the Marie Celeste ! Most people in that part of the world prefer to watch that other game played by men with peculiar shaped balls !
