No major stand out candidate that I know of and I have not been to priestfield for a few years now so I'm not one to comment. So I ask my fellow Gills fans to to comment on Who and more importantly Why???

I think the popular choices will be for the likes of Nelson, Barrett and Fish, but id go for chris whelpdale. He has made a real difference in lots of games and everytime he picks up the ball you think something might happen. I also think burton deserves an honourable mention - superb acquisition.

Whelpdale has been off form at times and has not been consistent enough for me to consider him even though him and Lee are two players I really like. However my player of the season so far is between Nelson and Fish but I would go with Fish due to his improvement.

You have to decide on what criteria are going to be used before you can have this debate. Otherwise you just get everyone arguing for their personal favourite. As a contribution I would suggest your first criterion has to be the number of games played. The second criterion has to be the contribution each player makes to those overall team performances. Thirdly how close has each player performed to their personal frontier of ability. Or something very similar.

Fish 100%. His performances this season have astounded me.Last season I thought he was very poor and would probably go back to non league. This season his transformation has been nothing short of miraculous. I don't understand why, but in my opinion he is well worthy of being player of the year

If I were voting today it would have to be Nelson. It's made many crucial and outstanding saves. Surely the equivalent of a striker having banged in 30 goals.

Nelson for me as well, absolute class. Best Gills keeper since old Ron Hillyard. Before some of you were born probably!!!

As I've previously stated, Nelson for me all day long, followed by Barrett then Martin.

The criteria isn't most improved player and I won't go into what I have many times before, but Fish has not been our best performer this year by a mile.

I am not just going by his improvement, I personally think he has been the best player many times this season, yes he is not 100% perfect, but no one is as he like everyone is human. I think his attacking is brilliant and also his defending has got a lot better and I have to say he is one of my favorites now.

    My top 3 are

    Fish
    Nelson
    Barrett

My personal favourite on a team sheet is Charlie Lee, my most improved player would be Matt Fish, my most criticised player who has shown better presence of mind and ability is Joe Martin, the warrior that holds it all together and you don't want him breathing down your neck is Andy Frampton, however, for my player of the season...I sort of edged towards Barrett but unsure on the element of consistency, I still remember that goal line clearance and the applause he received but I must not let it blur my vision...

    Stuart Nelson.
