Perhaps the best news of the window so far? Today tells us that: Djourou is almost a Hannover player for 1.6m which could be finalised by tomorrow - I wish him well. He has ability. Arshavin could be off to PSV having rejected Reading. He'll link up with Dick Advocat, the former Russia manager who he knows. Chamakh is wanted by West Ham & Lille. He wants out having missed out on the ACON. Squillaci says "I will be out of contract at the end of the season. As things stand, I will leave, perhaps during the January transfer window or else in June...Marseille, Nice, Monaco, Bastia and Ajaccio are clubs who speak to me. I am 32, and I still have two or three good seasons left." Shifting these 4 would free up significant wages (possibly around 250k if the reported 50k / 80k / 60k / 60k are to be believed), paving the way for new players Seriously hoping all of these come off and there's some immediate reinvestment
Shame really, as they all showed promise when they first came (well, perhaps not Squillaci!). They never really realised the potential. Particularly mystifying and frustrating of all is Arshavin. From the sublime - his 4 goals at Anfield will always be one of my favourite Arsenal memories - to the poor. I wish him well. The others probably wont be missed too much - and I agree, I hope the money is wisely invested.
I don't know what Arshavin does in training, but in the games where we've looked most hopeless I always thought of him coming on and making an outrageous assist like he so usually did. He's still probably the most skillful in breaking through very 'negative' opponents. He doesn't need to play 90 minute games to be useful, but there must be a reason why he doesn't even come into consideration as a 70 min sub anymore.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-ar...d&utm_campaign=Feed: arsenal-news (News Feed) We do finally seem to be getting free of the deadwood in the dressing room, will free up wages and possibly even bring in some extra transfer funds, hopefully it is for other players to come in.
Are those wages for real? £80k a week for Arshavin and £60k a week for Chamakh....**** me...no wonder Walcott turned down £75K a week.
I will be sorry to see Arshavin go. I think he has real ability , he never gets enough game time. The rest , dont let the door hit your asses on the way out. Skill-lacky , should be compensating us for the wages we have wasted on him. He is f@cking cr@p ! I would love to know which muppet decided to buy him .
short memories some people . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU4EnS2ziEc i bet you didnt say he was sh1te that night. For me he would have to have a broken leg for me to chose him behind the forehead to start.
Problem is that these players were 'close' to exiting in the summer transfer window, only for their moves to break down for some reason (WAGES!!!). So, I can't get my hopes up yet.
Am i meant to be impressed by a player having one good game. How many games since then has he played and been a total waste of space ? BTW i didn't say he was sh1te,i said he was ****e
It was more than one game though Cym. Arshavin was sensational when he joined us. We were struggling in the league with Cesc out injured and Villa were ahead of us in the race for a top four spot. Arshavin changed everything and got our season back on track, he was brilliant. And in the next season, he was also pretty good, although his form started to drop. But he did a job for us a CF and was still getting goals and assist. His contribution to the Arsenal cause far exceeds what guys like Gervinho,Chamakh and co have done.
Gervinho has only been with us for one full season so that could change.Chamakh did very well for us when he first joined but when RVP returned from injury and Chamakh was dropped he seemed to lose all his confidence
Doubt it. Gervinho time and time again, displays that he can't even do the basics with much consistency. Arshavin has never had a performance as bad Gervinho's against Bradford.
Arshavin has been one of our most effective players the entire time he's been with us. His stats speak for themselves. He has always got us goals and assists. He has got a goal or assist per 1-2 games over his whole time with us. If he hadn't needed to do so much defensive work in the system we play he would have continued to start every game. It's a real shame that his playing style is purely attacking and we are unable to afford that luxury in the team we have at the moment. Previously we dominated games so much that we could utilize him properly but with the current team and style he just doesn't fit. Without him we would not have done as well as we have in the time he has been at the club. Even last season where he was used rarely he had an impact (his assist for Henry's winner at sunderland springs to mind). He is able to create moments of magic and unlock a defense. World Class on his day. He has had patches where he has struggled for form but he is another player who was over critisized and has been far better than most will remember him as. If his wages where not so high i would keep him around as he can be a useful player, but i think with him being one of our top earners we could use the wages better on a new signing.
If we lose Djourou we will need to sign another CB. Three isn't enough, and we don't have Song as an emergency stand in anymore.
If Djourou is on the way out i'd imagine a new CB is lined up already. Wenger has had to deal with losing CB's to injury over the last few seasons and he won't want to be short.
