Just seen an article that's in the Sun I believe. Alan Pardew says player representatives need to get a grip on reality. http://www.goal.com/en-au/news/4146...4/newcastle-manager-pardew-hits-out-at-agents Totally agree, someone needs to pull these guys into line I for one am sick of average players being sold for stupid money just so the agent can get his pound(s) of flesh! Thoughts?
i have to admit i've never really understood what they do. Everybody else in every other form of life gets their own jobs and sorts their own pay. Why do footballers need someone to do it for them?
Paul Scholes never had an agent, preferring to negotiate his contract via a PFA representative. Didn't do him much harm, did it?
Wonder what the PFA has to say about this? Surely the time has got to come when clubs have to stand up for this and exclude them from negotiations- straight out transfer fee plus wages no agents fees. These leeches must know there is a financial crisis is Europe.
There should be some sort of licence that an agent has to acquire to be able to call themselves an agent, and there should be some FIFA law that clubs are not allowed to do business with unlicensed agents, that would mean all agents would have to apply for a licence and maybe do some sort of course. There should be a set fee set by FIFA for agents, therefore they can't demand huge fees, therefore it does not matter what country you sign a player from, you will pay the same fee.
If players want agents they should pay their fees themselves but whilst agents get their cut from the club of course players will use them, it's win/win. Some of them are real poison, they'll convince a player not to join a club if they don't meet the fee they demand and actively try to manufacture moves by offering their players to other clubs behind the backs of the current club.
Over here in the NRL (that's the Main Rugby League comp) all player agents must be registered with the League and follow the guidelines set by the governing body. It doesn't stop player from getting good deals from the clubs but it certainly prevents the agents from doing dirty under the table deals. Any agent found doing it is immediately de-registered and cannot act for any player until the license is returned. Could that sort of setup work for football or is it too big?
It would have to be FIFA that the agents were registered to, as football is such a global game, but I don't see how it would not work, it would just mean that FIFA would have to police the system, and we all know how incompetent they are lol.
I have no problems with agents, but players should have to pay their fees out of their own money. Clubs are essentially paying someone to rip them off at the moment, which is ridiculous. A number of players need to have a good look at what they're trying to get out of a career in the game. Sometimes the best move is no move at all and short term gain is often long term loss. How many players have gone from a promising prospect to a forgotten bench warmer because of a predictably stupid transfer? Good for the agent, not so good for the naive youngster.
It would be nigh on impossible to get rid of Agents. Even if they were banned entirely, they'd come back as advisers etc. And if clubs stopped paying them, they'd be forced to pay players more, as an agent would demand a segment of his pay. Unfortunatly, agents are just part and parcel of modern money driven football.
Yet there's no actual reason for them to exist, as players can simply use the PFA to renegotiate contracts (if it's good enough for Paul Scholes, it's good enough for any other English footballer) Of course, the PFA can't be involved in negotiations if a player is being signed from abroad, due to every league having their own player's association, and that's where agents would find the loophole to exploit. Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura spring to mind in that regard...
Exactly, and if on cue we get Rodwell going to Citeh, probably never to be seen again. OK one day they'll be an exception and it might be him, but that doesn't detract from the rule which is fairly basic. Even allowing for squad rotation and a lot of games, there simply aren't enough to keep 25 top class footballers properly employed... and yet no doubt all of them were told they would get plenty of games by their agents who are supposed to be working in their interest? Whose interest exactly?
I read in Billy Nic's book that he did all the negotiations for players. He identified the player, watched or had him watched, contacted his club and negotiated a fee and add ons - a handshake deal done! No agent needed.
This is one of my "don't get me started on that one" subjects. Whilst the original concept was a good idea, that idea has been so totally corrupted and distorted, that it's just beyond a joke. Yes, in this day and age of ridiculous salaries, the players should at least pay 50% or so of the agent's fee. For instance, RVP's agent reportedly wants £4mil for "arranging" his transfer to any one of a long list of eager buyers. Not exactly a difficult sale that one, is it? So £4mil for doing what, exactly? I'm sure that with the line of potential suitors that he has that there's nothing too complicated in there. In short, today's agents are nothing more than parasites - self serving leeches, who are sucking the lifeblood out of he game.
This is part of the reason Im not convinced he had a whole lot to do with that statement he released. If he stays at arsenal or goes for free next year his agent won't make that much money, but if he moves this year, the guy will make a fortune.
