Play-Off's - without them the whole season can finish weeks early and it keeps the season going for teams half way down the league for so many teams - We all know the rules so no one should bleat if they finish third and do not get promoted

Play-Offs, like Danger says, it keeps the season going for mid-table clubs.

Yep, there is that to think about Danger, especially with clubs struggling with revenue I suppose.

However, looking how tight the league is this year,if things stay as they are, mid table will still be in with a shout a lot nearer the end !

I've always thought that it should be top three as I believe they are the best 3 teams in the league. As you say the league table doesn't lie, from a fans' view I suppose it keeps it more interesting and it also earns Sky and all the others that matter money so it'll never change, someone a few years back was trying to propose the team finishing 3rd in the champ should play the team that finished 3rd bottom in the prem. I thought that was a good idea at the time, probably kinda pointless now with the amount squads change over the summer

I thought it was a stupid idea when it started & tbh I´m still abit unsure after all these years, BUT as pointed out, clubs know the score & only a top 2 will do, the rest will have to fight it out. At least it´s better than the rugby, don´t they have a play off to see who wins the title ? & the same goes for the MLS (US) aswell, if I´m not wrong that is.

This is happening in Germany now. 3rd bottom (prem) v 3rd top (champ) but as said the P.O´s have alot to do with money.

The rugby boys do, even if you've topped the league table by miles they have a play off to be crowned champions! A bizarre arrangement.

Yeah I don't get that in Rugby or MLS, why do they do that?

For me though, playoffs definitely. Think how boring our first season under Nigel, and even last season under Sven. The only thing that kept it remotely exciting was our very outside chance of reaching the playoffs.

They do it in rugby because of the mass of international call ups, yet the club sides have to keep playing with severely depleted squads. Thus, the best team of the season may not necessarily be top of the league. Thought it would be more sensible to cancel club games when international call ups are made, and let the club fixture list decide who the league champions are.
As for the play offs - I remember many seasons before they were introduced and watching 2 teams who really couldnt give a ****. Now - there is still a lot more interest in the last few fixtures for a lot more teams. Also, having reached the play offs a number of times, the emotional roller coaster is amazing. Days out at Wembley are always memorable.
Despite a valid argument for the team finishing 3rd to be automatically promoted, play offs for me every time.

FA still need to pay for Wembley - need excuses to move games there and charge fans insanely stupid prices for games.

Is only time before there is a playoff for relegations - anything to squeeze one more penny.

But when there only getting 60-70K for England games surely they must realise tickets are madly over priced

You're applying common sense Proud & this is the FA, who have none & don't give a sweet FA about the fans.

The play offs certainly extend the excitement of the season for a number of clubs & I've enjoyed some top trips to Wembley.

I don't agree with playoffs for relegation, that would be a terrible idea, really hope that doesn't come in. Don't they do that in Holland or somewhere?

Play-Offs as for the reasons stated; it would finish so much earlier and leave too many worthless matches for mid-table Clubs. But also, the excitement of the Play-Offs is second to none, teams getting to go to Wembley regardless of the League they're in and it's amazing to be a part of.
