I suspect that many people, like me, tend to support other teams when Fulham loanees or esteemed ex-Fulham players are in their line ups. Which prompts a dilemma this weekend: who to support when Dan Burn's Yeovil and Marcello Trotta's Brentford face each other tomorrow? If it comes to that, who does everyone want to win the other play off games. Here's my thoughts: League 2: Bradford, in recognition of the League Cup exploits. League 1: Yeovil, partly because I have more hope for Dan Burn to make it for us than I do Trotta, but mainly because my father-in-law supports Yeovil. Championship: Despite Matthew Briggs' presence, I'm going for Palace. My Dad supported them as a boy, when our Ronnie Rooke was their manager, I'm not a big fan of the ownership set up at Watford, and I think of the two they have got more chance of crashing and burning in the Premier League next season! (sorry Palace fans)
I'd agree with most of those sentiments, Captain. I've actually seen quite a few Brentford games over the past few years, as I have a friend who is a ST holder and its a great way for me to get my lower league football fix from time to time. But as much as this would disappoint my friend, I'm supporting Yeovil tomorrow: I like watching the occasional League One game at Brentford. With the Championship playoff, I can't really lose; I will go to the away game at either Vicarage Road or Selhurst Park. However you are right that Palace have the better chance of crashing and burning next year, so I guess I will be in the Palace corner for that one.
The only reason I'd go for Brentford is the mischievous thought of that massive West London derby with QPR. Memories of our past meetings with that club and the heart are with Yeovil though. In the early 2000s I'd take my son to see Palace on occasion - his mother considered him too young to go to 'big' games with all those hooligans about and that from somebody who played Hockey!. So there's a quiet affinity with the Eagles. Like you Captain, I'm not a fan of how the Watford team has been put together and don't understand how they'll field a premiership side, so it may be them that would be more vulnerable. My casting vote to Palace is the prospect of (even) more Ollly interviews. And definitely Bradford, for the same reason you give.
Its Yeovil for me,although i have a soft spot for Brentford,"reasons." I fell that Dan Burn has a greater potential future wit us than Marcello Trotta, and another year on loan in a higher division could greatly assist in his development.
Yup, same for me all round. I have a few Palace-supporting mates and they've been suffering the past few years.
Well done the winning-goalscoring hero Dan Burn (the radio 5 commentator thought James Haytor didn't quite get a touch, and that's good enough for me!) I'm 2 from 2 in my play off wishlist. Just Palace now for the complete set. Incidentally, James Haytor was a big favourite of mine in his Bournemouth days. Not that that's relevant to anything.
