He threatens Ribery with match ban because he chose to retire after the World Cup. Surely he can't be serious...I don't think players can pick and choose international games, but surely they have every right to withdraw from being considered for a call up. After all, it is understandable that at 31, Ribery may be seeking to prolong his football career.
I didn't know Platini could dip to a new low. Ribery has been suffering with injuries and wants to prolong his career, so he's taking the sensible decision.
The rule about not being able to refuse to play was for use against clubs withdrawing players unnecessarily and to stop players cherry picking games...it was never intended to be used against people who've done their bit and want to retire at a reasonable age. Platini is a moron.
