He wants sin bins for yellows and no suspensions for getting 5, 10 etc in a season. The only problem with that is that they are handed out like confetti but maybe refs might think twice if they have to send players off for a while We might possibly see 9 v 9 soon for a few minutes.
Its still better than the current system, some random team gets the benefit of someone being suspended but that would change, someone does a cynical foul and the other team benefits straight away. However I think cheating would increase massively as well to try and get a man advantage for 10 mins.
Interesting idea. I do like the sound of the team that a player has 'sinned' against, getting the advantage there and then. It sounds more equitable but possibly introduces unhelpful tactics into the game with potential to detract from the actual football.
It was worth it even more before as there was no draw back at all, at least then you'd get 2 mins plus injury time against 10 men. Suspensions for yellows were stupid, they were thought of when it was a time that you had to do a red card tackle of today's standard to get booked. Now you get booked for breathing on someone.
Great idea but with the diving that goes on, if that isn't dealt with properly, it might make the diving worse. Imagine how many times Ashley Young would try it on if he thought he could adjust the team numbers for ten minutes.
True, but maybe this will speed along a crackdown on diving. In the NHL, only 3 players from each team are allowed to talk to the ref. Id like to see players booked for appealing for a decision too, the cheating is so bad that they now appeal for corners and throw ins that were nowhere near going their way. The language players use is shocking, they tell the ref to **** off if they dont get the decision. That should be a straight red, swearing should be allowed but not insulting the ref. Id also like to see no reds for 2 yellows, you just get 10 mins off for every booking, that would mean less games ruined by wrong decisions. There are so many ways to improve football but the morons at FIFA usually make it worse. This time it looks like 2 of the home nations are blocking it when they need unanimous approval.
It's a crap idea, teams will time waste for 10 minutes as soon as their man is binned. The game will be completely slowed down. There's nothing wrong with the current system, however it would be improved if yellows/reds could be handed out/rescinded retrospectively Via a panel watching the footage every week.
The problem is, a couple of rash tackles in a short period, and you could end up with 11 v 9 or 11 v 8. The other problem is that Joey Barton plays for us...
I think refs may stop handing out cards like confetti, at least Id hope so. I want to go back to the days where every mistimed sliding tackle wasnt a yellow and you only got cautioned for fouls done on purpose. Were even getting yellows now for players winning the ball cleanly and then touching the other player after or going in "too strongly". Just how are you supposed to not go in strong if you are running at full pace?
I might go out on a limb here but do you like hockey by any chance? Seriously though, I agree with where you're coming from. Maybe somewhere in between what you suggest and what we have today should be the aim imo. It is mainly ok in Championship apart from the times when we come across the ambitious w***** with Premier League ambitions, throwing cards around like the league was full of David Silva's. Yes the level of refereeing is **** but more often than not they let the players get on with it. Almost like watching two different sports the Championship and the Premier League.
We had a game against Birmingham 3-4 years ago and the ref forgot his whistle. It was brilliant. He awarded about 3 fouls all game and they were blatant yellows that only got a FK. The players adapted and we had a very entertaining game, no diving or play acting and thunderous challenges everywhere and the players just go on with it. Sadly, hes probably back in pub football now.
Some of the Rugby Union rules would benefit football, backchat the ref and the free kick is moved 10 yards nearer goal, swearing at a ref would be a red card and sin bins for bookable fouls, with a red card for a second bookable foul would be worth trialling...
