I just read an interesting article on the BBC debating whether Carroll can be Rogers plan B.

It explained how last season a criticism of Rogers at Swansea was that he did not have a plan B for when things were going wrong.

I feel that we will need this plan B, especially considering this is a new style for many of our players, and I can see a lot of teams 'parking the bus' to restrict us, which I fear could stop us to easily if we are not careful. We need to be able to adapt to situations to change the game.

Personally I think our plan B should be more direct, using pace, muscle and width.

All teams need a plan B. Barca needed one against Chelsea, but did not have one. We had no plan B for the whole of the second half of last season. For years we had no plan B for when Gerrard was injured. Though Carroll almost rescued us in the FA cup final, and Rafa had a great plan B in Instanbul.

I think a lot of what we needed to play this way is already there.

    ----------Lucas-----Gerrard---------

    ------------------Suarez------------
    -------------Carroll------------------

    Thoughts?

This plan B thing is a little over-hyped.

Barca were a crossbar away from being comfortably in the final.

Both Plan A and Plan B can be employed by the same players as it is merely a change of tactics.

Not sure he needs to be plan b. AC is a very good player and will come good. People used to think that Crouch would only be good in the air when in actual fact he was pony in the air and very good with ball to feet. AC has a mean left foot but he does seem to need a lot of confidence. I dearly hope he becomes plan A with Suarez up top.
With regards to Barca the teams that do well against them either pack the defence or pack the midfield and then rely on a bit of luck. However the team they have is light years ahead of most in terms of collective personel. We need our own way of playing to the strengths that we have.
Also even though leagues dont lie lets not forget Barca finished second last season not first. Does this mean Real Madrid are the model to follow or did the league indeed lie?

carroll needs games.... if he's plan b or an impact sub or whatever he'll never do well enough to really make the impact i think.

If rodgers doesn't fancy the guy as a player fair enough, its his choice but he should sell him now not give some other club a year to either ruin the guy or prove roadgers wrong.. better to sell now and replace. 35mil? this is why comolli got the sack and not rodgers' fault but i would be totally shcoked that he can make a call without even speaking to the guy as he did say carroll is a fine player but then went on to state all players need the right mentality... if he can judge attitude from afar then i think he must be a genius who will sign us a world class team in 2 month.

oh and on barca... barca have a great model but they have fallen for thier own hype. gaurdiola wanted out for good reason... if messi insists on playing all the games then when the one week that really matters comes along and he's so tired he doesn't run or try a leg then you will go out of the CL and you will lose to real.... he had 4 CMS, 2 CBs and 4 wingers on v chelsea... they've decided in psain that forwards are no longe rneeded and cms can play cb... in the end they will fall apart as a result of this attitude.

  7. I think that sums it completely...<ok>

I wish everyone would just ****off with these Barcelona comparisons. We are Liverpool Football Club and Rodgers has already stated that intends to play the Liverpool way. Not the Barcelona way, not the Swansea way, but the Liverpool way! The only similarities will be passing/possession football. Brendan wants the team to work as a unit and be hard to break down, he wants us to pass the ball and close the opposition quickly when we lose possession, that my friends is the LIVERPOOL WAY!!!!

    (Not aimed at you MITO...<ok>)

Agree with you 100%, their finishing wasn't the best...they had enough clear cut chances and a penalty. We had the same problem last season...especially at Stoke. We then brought Carroll on with little effect. Personally I think Carroll can easily play in BR's 'Plan A'.

I totally agree with you. It's not just the current squad but there has always been something unique about the way that Liverpool play their football - in both good times and bad before the Wums start!. We are LIVERPOOL and we are not Barcelona or Swansea or any other club for that matter because as a football club we are bigger and better.

So take £10m for him now while he's just starting to find his feet rather than loan him for a year and make a lot more out of him? This isn't high school and Carroll is not your girlfriend going off with another bloke, he's a club asset. Let's not throw babies out with bath waters. We don't lose points for loaning him rather than selling him. He will improve because he already is and his price will go up. Why should we give that value to another club?

  11. But if we loan him out then we leave ourselves short for the season with no further funds to get reinforcements. Obviously, we could look to loan someone in ourselves but who...?
