Hi everyone, My eldest son and his family are looking to relocate to Gods Country and have been looking at a place in Consett? Apart from knowing it snows there all year round, anyone have any thoughts about it as a place to live please?
I moved from Washington to Consett (Crookhall) just over 10 years ago, and i i love it up here. As with anywhere there's "good" and "bad" parts, but thats subjective as well. Quite a lot of new builds going up as well. I commute to Newcastle, takes around 30 minutes. Easy for Durham, Sunderland, newcastle etc. Aye it snows, but its class man, if he has kids they'll love it. Any idea where hes looking to move to, what area of Consett?
Thank you mate. He has 2 kids, 10 and 7. Trying to find out where the house is, hes not good on the important details, all we have so far is its in Consett and can we have a look at the schools
Consett Academy for 11 onwards, and St Bedes in Lanchester. There are a few junior schools dotted about, nearest one to me Delves Lane Primary.
Advice. If you manage to get out through the snow and take the car down to, lets say to an autumn day like Metro Centre, your car will be the only one with a foot of snow balanced on its roof. Do not scrape it off. You are from Consett my son. Wear it like a badge of honour.
Ive genuinely got to work in Newcastle and been the only car in the car park with snow on it. I now scrape the snow off the roof....I learned the hard way, or should I say the expensive way.
Trying to get the address of the house, unfortunately between him and his mam its like pulling teeth getting the details
Apparently the house is on Green Street, Leadgate. Think i found it on Street View, doesnt look to bad and the pictures of the inside of the house look good
Leadgate's ok mate: primary school, not far from Consett academy, 5 mins to consett town centre. Also in Leadgate there is Klers fish bar, which does the best doner kebabs and chilli sauce in Consett.
Lanchester is just a couple of miles down the road and seems a little nicer when I've ever been in that area.
Thanks for the comments, hopefully things get sorted and they can be in God's country before Christmas
Was born & bred in Bridgehill which has some nice bits, as does Shotley Bridge. Sister still lives in Lanchester which is a lovely village, where St Bedes school is. Bart
