Didnt want to dig this up again but it was a great time in the clubs history, remember thinking what the hell is going on here haha, what were you all thinking when you saw this table in October 2008? Wanna be back there but Im enjoying the Championship to be honest, getting back to winning ways seeing attacking football and its a fantastic league to be in and in alot of ways were better for it. Keep rebuilding though and who knows, we may see this again sometime in the future. UTT! 5/10/2008 1 Chelsea - 17 2 Liverpool - 17 3 Hull City - 14 4 Arsenal - 13 5 Aston Villa - 13 6 West Ham United - 12 7 Portsmouth - 12 8 Manchester United - 11 9 West Bromwich Albion - 10 10 Blackburn Rovers - 10 11 Manchester City - 9 12 Middlesbrough - 9 13 Wigan Athletic - 8 14 Sunderland - 8 15 Everton - 8 16 Bolton Wanderers - 7 17 Fulham - 6 18 Newcastle United - 5 19 Stoke City - 4 20 Tottenham Hotspur - 2
Ah yes we were on 20 werent we level with Liverpool and Chelsea, I digged the first one that came up although I have found the one were we are on level points. Hope I havent opened a can of worms with this thread, I was just reminiscing! TONY_WARNERS_FACE maybe we should have kept him on till the end of season but come on dude you know he lost control...
It's true, that was Brownie at his best. It was just before he bottled it, went 4-5-1, fell out with half the players and we went into free-fall. Nobody's perfect.
And just for comparison, here is the Div 3/League 2 table exactly 10 years earlier - 05/10/1998 1 Scunthorpe United 22 2 Brentford 21 3 Halifax Town 21 4 Darlington 21 5 Cardiff City 20 6 Plymouth Argyle 20 7 Rotherham United 19 8 Cambridge United 19 9 Peterborough United 17 10 Chester City 16 11 Exeter City 16 12 Swansea City 15 13 Mansfield Town 15 14 Southend United 15 15 Hartlepool United 14 16 Scarborough 13 17 Leyton Orient 13 18 Torquay United 13 19 Barnet 12 20 Carlisle United 12 21 Rochdale 12 22 Brighton & Hove Albion 10 23 Shrewsbury Town 8 24 Hull City 7 I remember that date well - my first 'Career' working day after finishing uni. God, what a bloody depressing time that was!
I like the table early afternoon on 15 Aug 2009 1 Hull City 1 1 3 2 Man City 0 0 0 3 Stoke 0 0 0 4 West Ham 0 0 0 5 Wigan 0 0 0 6 Everton 0 0 0 7 Fulham 0 0 0 8 Sunderland 0 0 0 9 Birmingham 0 0 0 10 Liverpool 0 0 0 11 Man Utd 0 0 0 12 Tottenham 0 0 0 13 Arsenal 0 0 0 14 Bolton 0 0 0 15 Portsmouth 0 0 0 16 Aston Villa 0 0 0 17 Blackburn 0 0 0 18 Burnley 0 0 0 19 Wolves 0 0 0 20 Chelsea 1 -1 0
I saw this thread and knew this comment was coming! To be fair i actually agree with you, though he was our greatest manager until things went tits up. We played West Brom on the Saturday before Liverpool and Chelsea played on the Sunday, us winning left us joint top for 24 hours. Remember going to Old Trafford and us been above Man United, think bacon face mentioned it in the matchday program.
i shall just add some notes 1 Scunthorpe United 22 about to drop out of the ccc 2 Brentford 21 3 Halifax Town 21 rip 4 Darlington 21 5 Cardiff City 20 ccc playoffs 6 Plymouth Argyle 20 7 Rotherham United 19 8 Cambridge United 19 conference 9 Peterborough United 17 10 Chester City 16 rip 11 Exeter City 16 been out of league 12 Swansea City 15 ccc playoffs 13 Mansfield Town 15 conference 14 Southend United 15 15 Hartlepool United 14 16 Scarborough 13 rip 17 Leyton Orient 13 18 Torquay United 13 been out of league 19 Barnet 12 been out of league 20 Carlisle United 12 been out of league 21 Rochdale 12 22 Brighton & Hove Albion 10 top of d3 23 Shrewsbury Town 8 been out of league 24 Hull City 7 been all the way up to the top of the pl
feck me Oct 2008 seems a seriously long time ago now....thankfully the 98 table is even further back...although I do find it a real, we can look back on it now and laugh scenario, seeing stuff like that always makes me chuckle and reminds me just how far we've come
Just thinking, we've seen our club 92nd in the league and joint top of the league. How many other clubs have ever occupied both those positions? (after games played)
Hull City 5 points clear of Man United, in a Champions League spot? It may not have lasted long, but it was one surreal experience whilst it did.
A bit hard to believe that we only registered 15 points from the remaining 29 games from that point on.
change it from 92nd to just bottom of the league and you'd get a better result. not certain but maybe carlisle preston burnley add pre ww1 and you can include notts forest and wba.
