Hi Swans It seems we are very very similar positions so far, with 2 draws and 1 away defeat to one of the PL big boys. I have to hold my hand up and say I have seen or read very little about your games so far so will ask the following. How do you rate PL referees & assistants so far? We have had some unbelievable decisions go against us in every game! Wigan away - foul outside the box becomes a penalty, yellow card for player - draw 1-1 Stoke home - Exactly the same - outside the box, only more obvious but the player was sent off - draw 1-1 Chelsea away - Keeper sent off, which IMHO was 'iffy' at best - Changed the whole complexion of the game and we lost 3-1 Not so much the Wigan game as we did well to come away with a point but the other 2 leave a bitter taste in the mouth. Decisions that have changed the entire course of the games.
To be honest so far there has been no major decisions against us, or for that matter for us, the penalty wigan had was a little IMO , Gomez made a meal out of it, the man city game I think the ref had a good game, Sunderland can't think of to much the ref did that was bad. I do think though that we will be on the end of a few bad decisions come the next few games, we had loads against last season, this one will come. I have just seen your game on motd, for me it was a penalty, but you gave them a game and I am sure you will do ok this season, wonder if you guys will appeal the red card ? And do you have a third keeper as cover?
I hope PL will appeal but if he does and it is rejected or he doesn't and Ruddy misses games we can call back a keeper who is out on loan. PL in an interview has already suggested this is very likely to happen. All the same, without Ruddy in goal, we have problems in that position.
Nothing major as of yet but a linesman dropped a right clanger yesterday ruling the ball didn't go out of play when it did and Sunderland nearly scored form it. I do see where you're coming from, just my gut feeling in these games is that the refs have let the opposition get away with more things than would have been allowed in the Championship, perhaps that's just the way it is in the Premier League. I thought it was a penalty for Chelsea but the sending off was very harsh, I do wish you guys luck and hope we can both stay up.
Get used to it lads, Prem refs tend to be terrible. Did you see the run of desicions that went against us last season? From the top of my head there was Crouch handballing the ball BEHIND the goal line, so red card, goal or at least a penalty. In the last minute of stoppage time to say the least. Having a goal disallowed against Everton for no reason, then going on to lose 1-0. Cattermole handballing the ball on the goal line TWICE in one movement when we were losing 1-0 to Sunderland. There were many others to choose from too.
Sawadee Kap, Thai! Standard has been average at best, though I find Linesmen/ women reluctant to take decisions and defer to the Ref first. No balls, see (LOL). Yesterday was an example when they could have easily scored AFTER the ball had already gone out. You could see the linesman hesitating and looking at the Ref. Wigan pen was a definite pen. Gomez made a meal of it, but unnecessarily. I'm sure we'll get some pretty bad decisions before season's end, just like everybody else. The introduction of technology will sort out some problems, but not all.
Sawadee Khab HTR I am sure you are right when you say I'm sure we'll get some pretty bad decisions before season's end. Away games at the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal are likely to be the one's as you will find out very soon I am sure. If you can contain them and give them a bit of a fright they will start to fall like dominoes in and around the penalty box I am sure.
Yep forgone conclusion we haven't had utd's ref yet, don't know how much they pay him but they won the league last season lol
I have noticed that Premier refs are a lot more lenient with hard tackles and tackles from behind than they are in the championship. Also, wasn't very impressed with Phil Dowd having several in-depth conversations about his decisions with a well known football hooligan in the crowd in the Wigan game. Dunno whether anyone else saw that
i thought the refferee s have been pretty decent so far, i think we had it worse than anybody in the ccc but it seems to be a bit more balanced in the prem (so far at least)
Only one poor decision I can remember is the ball going out for a goal kick (or not as the ref & linesman thought) and Manchester City scoring their 3rd seconds later. Totally changed the game. We would have definitely got back into the game if it wasn't for that decision. *cough*
