Makes both interesting and sad reading, depending on which club you support. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-guide-Premier-League-s-financial-health.html
Sums us up in a nutshell, 'The current outstanding financial basket-case in the Premier League, in disarray after years of mismanagement'. I hope all those who praised TF realise just how serious our position is becoming and the 'changes' he is now proposing are a drop in the ocean. Wages are 195% of income, that is an insult to every QPR fan considering half that squad are not even PL quality and the abysmal dross we get served up week-in, week-out. Add to that the potential FFP penalties and a serious meltdown is looming. We, the fans, are the ones who will continue suffering...
I agree we are a basket case...but suspect some other clubs (probably the bigger ones...are hiding things better than we are...do not believe for a minute the two Manchesters figures) But what other clubs do or don't do is not our issue... we are in the mire we need to do something
Fair play Sooper, I was one of them and only a few weeks ago when I did that not very well thought out vote thread on this subject. Hands in the air I'm no financial expert and also know sweet fa about running a football club, I will say this, for sure things are looking grim and alarm bells are starting to ring for me. Sadly we will just have to grin and bear it as I suppose we are fooked with TF or equally as fooked without him.
The whole thing has been rigged for the benefit of the larger clubs. Investment is smaller clubs is now pointless and not allowed! Our spending has been ridiculous and totally misguided, but the honey pot of the Premier League makes people do silly things. Once aboard (and settled on) the gravy train you might just have a chance. *********** A friend of mine with connections to the board at Wycombe Wanderers tells me that they are actually ****-scared of being promoted, as silly as that sounds, because they will not cope financially in Division 1. Only four teams in Div 1 have a smaller ground capacity than WW. 3 of those 4 teams are in the bottom 6. Wycombe has a ground capacity of 10,000. 12 teams in Div 1 have a capacity of over 15,000, 4 of those with a capacity of over 25,000. Imagine the difference in income that can create. (I didn't say "does") Wycombe cannot extend their ground (like us) and a scheme where the local council would build a 30,000 stadium was objected to by the residents. That would have suited Wasps, but they moved out to go to Coventry's 32,500 stadium, which they have since purchased for £30m, when the deal when belly up.
With a stadium capacity of just 18k we are always going to find it difficult to generate income, in addition to this we don't have the commercial power of the bigger clubs with overseas merchandise sales etc. Having said that, we are clearly in a perilous situation, huge debt and staring relegation in the face. A few irritating niggles in the article though, Chelsea being £970 million in debt but that is not seen as an issue for example.
Yep, things not looking too rosy for us but could you imagine the world of s**t they would be in if the Roman did one. Also got to give Daniel Levy a shout, we could desperately do with someone like him steering the QPR ship right now.
There are so few of his ilk out there. Everybody wants one! You just have to trust to luck and hope that you don't end up with the wrong sort. This is one aspect of the club that you cannot choose. Someone pays to be the owner/top dog. Either it works or it doesn't. It isn't working well for us at the moment.
I agree with what your saying but I will add that Daniel Levy is merely a director and minority shareholder at Spurs. As you say they are far and few between these days sadly.
As mentioned before our most recent stable time at QPR was with Amit calling the shots. I so wish he could be our chairman once again.
There is a 'natural order' to each league and some clubs are between divisions. Wycombe were always a top non-league team who got it right in the late 90s and progressed to the division they are now in which is a good fit for their size. As you say, they will struggle if they go up and may yo-yo between divisions in future. We are basically a Championship team that has punched above it's weight thanks to the money spent but we could end up struggling to stay in the Championship due to all the shyte heading our way...
And I agree too, it's a great post, Sooper. The question is, will Tony Fernandes cut and run like our erstwhile patella-challenged manager, or will he stick it out and regroup. I haven't done the sums but I assume that with Premiership receipts and parachute payments to come, we're in a better position now than we would have been if we hadn't been promoted. So this season has been a bruising but financially worthwhile. The big damage was done with players contracts during our first foray into the Prem with Ferdinand. And at least those contracts are soon to expire.
I agree. I'm not convinced that all will be doom and gloom come relegation. We'll clear our a lot of high earners and hopefully start again. It may take some time, but we may be financially better off by the end of it (as long as the present owners stick it out!!).
