It's so refreshing to be linked, and signing: proven, hungry, Championship players... rather than: unpassionate, Premier League rejects a couple of years ago. Being naive...I always thought getting Premiership players would be the only way to get us out of the Championship, but looking at the last couple of years, you can see it just pushes us back! I think PJ, knows how to get out of this league, and has signed players who have been there and done it, and know what it takes to get out! Although I don't think we will go up next year, I do think we'll be in the mix, come the end of the season.
It has been an encouraging start. The right areas are being addressed and the blend of older and younger new exciting players will be i think very good to watch next season. Are any of the below getting closer? Cresswell Left Back. St Ledger/Pearce CB Treacy Winger. Another one/two strikers. At least two midefielders one attacking one defensive. So still much for our man to do within the next few weeks. And it looks like another keeper is now wanted.
100% agreed, also it's nice that not every player that we get linked with used to play for Sunderland (Chopra aside) Jewell has an eye for players. Look at what some of the guys he got for Wigan have gone on to do (Antonio Valencia for example)
Certainly feeling much more optimistic now than I have for some time. Looking forward to seeing some entertaining (and winning) football down at PR next season and we may be a force to be reckoned with. Not going to predict how well we will do while the team/squad is still under construction - we will just have to wait and see.
I feel reassured that PJ knows what he's doing on the transfer front. Everyone we've been linked to so far I've genuinely been excited about. This hasn't been the case for a few years now! Just as long as we get the passion back, cut out the moaning and make more noise PR will be a fortress again. Crowd numbers are still going to be down due to a ridiculous ticketing policy and general financial hardship. People will want to see PJ's team. We need to get the vibe back to what it was like under BFJ. At the end of the season it will have been 10 years since we last graced the big boy's league. Hopefully we'll make it an aniversary worth celebrating!
It says on the ever reliable wiki site that SSL signed for Ipswich on June 16th for undisclosed fee. Me thinks that JWM has been on there winding up the Preston fans!!!
Because i smell a rat and it tends to be you most of the time!! It wouldn't be your first time would it?
Now I'd hate to have to remind you of this but I remember similar optimism when Roy Keane was appointed your manager... (2 seasons to reach the Premier League anyone?)
There were a few people who were like that but I think most town fans always felt Keane was a bad fit for the club. I don’t think anyone is getting carried away, nobody is seriously saying we will walk the division by any means. It’s going to be a long hard season as always. But we have a manager with a proven track record in the transfer market and we were playing much better football in the second half of the season. We are making some decent signings who can help us play some attractive football and progress as a club after 3 years of mid-table mediocrity. COYB!
I had high hopes when RK came in but it quickly became apparent it wasn't going to work. He was breaking all sorts of records and all of them unwanted. Longest start to a season before win and countless others as well as bad mouthing supporters and punishing players unduly. Hindsights a wonderful thing but I am very glad he was finally sacked. We gave him a fair enough crack of the whip when many clubs would have sacked him long before, that was the only thing 'Ipswich' about his time here though.
