Came across this tweet while watching the 1st practice session, says it all really but doesnt answer the question; Race 14 & the 14 place we've visited where the locals seem to watch our #f1 coverage, not their own broadcaster. Flattering but slightly odd Person Name@jakehumphreyf1 26 mins ago Bet they wont be next year
Well I think that was Jake's point. He can't say much if he values his job (and he does! ) but these kinds of things he can get away with and hope we read between the lines. He's doing it a lot now, I've noticed; at first I thought he was being a bit arrogant, bigging himself up but I think this is actually his form of subtle subversion.
I agree Max. He needs to be very subtle but I do not believe he is happy at what has happened and that he feels the UK's F1 fans are getting a raw deal. On top of that, all those countries which have been taking the BBC's coverage will suffer a similar fate (although they are not being held to a £600 ransom by Murdoch - at least, not yet….
Another little thing thing he did was include a few references in his last BBC blog, thereby enabling posters to comment on the deal more freely without being censored by the Stasi, sorry, the BBC mods.
One good thing to come out of this disgraceful deal for me is that I am going to my first GP for five years next year to make up for not getting proper coverage anymore. Humphrey is too much of a BBC yesman to do anything controversial, just waiting for the Olympics isn't he as he knows that will be the highlight of his presenting career.
It's called "don't bite the hand that feeds you" I'm afraid. I'm tempted to agree with the posts above that say he's been trying to subtly allude - I think I'd be pretty pissed as well...
Yes, there is that to him as well but if I was Jake, I'd want to keep that job too. What he's doing isn't much maybe but the deal wasn't his doing and I doubt he likes it any more than we do.
Love him or loathe him, Jake Humphrey really enjoys his F1 work and I can bet that he's more than a little disappointed in finding it chopped in half.
Even if he was secretly dissapointed in the BBC's shortcomings in fullfilling their f1 contract im sure he would'nt risk his job to negatively comment about them on Twitter, besides he is'nt to blame for this Sky and higher powers at the BBC are where the blame should be cast.
Yea, whatever Jake may say, or how many waves he generates, he would ultimately loose his job and not have any positive effect upon the Sky deal. He's a young guy and has many years in front of him, keep quiet, and get on with it, why loose the job of your dreams for something beyond your influence.
Nobody could ever blame him for not saying anything, what's the point of losing your livelihood over a silly little spat with an Australian cockend? I feel sorry for him, imo he's a good presenter and will be sorely missed due to whatever ****e Sky put on.
