We go to AFC Bournemouth July 27th and a certain Mr Brett Pitman is quote relishing the opportunity to face his old club for the first time since he left to join Bournemouth in November. Pitman who scored 19 times to help Bournemouth win promotion to the Championship last season after falling out of favour with former City manager Derek McInnes, says he is looking forward to the pre-season encounter.

He says..."Although I felt I didn't really get a fair crack of the whip at Bristol City, that is all in the past now and I am looking forward to playing them," Pitman scored 20 times for City after he arrived in August 2010.

"I won't have anything to prove and my focus will be on preparing for the new season with us." Pitman was handed a full league debut by City boss Sean O'Driscoll when the pair were together at Bournemouth in 2006, and he added: "A lot has changed at the club since I was there, and they are in good hands under Sean O'Driscoll.

"He is an excellent manager and gets his teams playing the right way so it will be a good test for us."

It will be interesting, I thought Pitman was a sharp goalscorer but a lazy git and 20 goals for an £800k investment over 2 plus seasons was poor, still good luck to the bloke..

I liked him and do believe he wasn't given a fair chance at us. If he had the right service I believe he would of been a bargin for us, but Millens didn't use him enough nor Del so probably something behind the scenes went on.

Probably was not given a decent run - also the team was not set up to play to his strengths (arguably Bournemouth was/is)

Something had gone on in the dressing room - remember no-one celebrated one of his goals with him

Credit to him - he's said the right things in that interview

This is another bad bit of business, the guy will score goals for fun with the right service.

Rather him over Davies and Baldock.

Excellent player who will score goals.

Davies is better than pitman imo. Both are similar but from the 2 I think davies is the better player.

They are both contracted until 2015. They aren't up for sale and neither have said they want to move.

I would hope we can keep both as they are both championship strikers and I don't know the last time we had 2 strikers to both get into double figures (goals) I would imagine Baldock would score 13-18 in league 1 with Davies 15-20. Which would be worth more to us than selling them this summer.

What a change of tune! A lot of people were slating Pitman a few months ago, saying he was lazy and that he was "League 1 at best", and now he's sorely missed!

We were morons for getting rid of him. I rated Baldock ahead of him, but I still maintain that the only reason we got rid of him was because McInnes didn't like him.

I thought Pitman might have been the striker to replace Maynard but for some reason two managers didn't really play him was he not showing enough in training or was it a personality clash with both managers we will never know, however he has left us now and we have to deal with the situation as it now is. I hope that we start getting some positive information from the OS soon on signings because the sooner we get them in the sooner the coaching staff can work at mixing them in with the players we still have, or in the case of certain defenders replacing them.

It was very litttle to do with Pitman, the bloke is a nature striker and this "only good enough for league one" talk is frankly bollocks. The bloke has shown us oh so clearly what he is capable of in the space of 4 months and I fully expect him to continue in the same vein next year.

Yes, he appeared lazy however as Hawk says, something was clearly not right behind the scenes so who knows what impact this had on his game for us. Frankly I wouldn't have cared less if he got us 25-30 goals a season which was well within his scope.

Brett's problem, like so many strikers in the last 9 years at The Gate was our game. We all know the statistic of our top scorer since 2006/07 (with the exception of one season) which is pitiful.

Our game got less and expansive and more and more panicky, year on year and apart from the first half of the 2007/08 season, we have had no effective midfield and a team simply cannot function without one. There was little coherence in the play and we relied more and more on the likes of Albert to create anything as we had no midfield to create and/or support the forwards and attack the box...

It was all pretty basic stuff but the fear factor kicked in and our game went downhill and it is more than past time to start again...

His persona and outward appearance was all wrong for a highly paid (relatively) professional footballer. Unkempt, scruffy, ambling around the pitch - when he got a game that was..!

He certainly had ability but a questionable attitude and approach to the game.

If any of you fancy a laugh, go through the users that have posted on this thread, add "Pitman site:not606.com" to their username on Google, and see who has changed their tune since relegation.
