Just caught Gus Poyets post match interview on the Beeb website. He made a comment about "It's not the biggest of pitches" and, for me, implied that his team would be able to show their class on a bigger pitch and we might have some sort of advantage by having a small pitch. So I looked them up. Sunderland - 112 yards long x 74 yards wide Rangers - 110 yards long x 72 yards wide So he's absolutely correct. I'm sure the extra 2 yards in each dimension makes all the difference. Thought you'd all like to know.... Well done Rs for winning today!!!
The pitch at Rangers isn't small, it's just with everyone so close to the pitch it makes it look small. You can imagine how away players feel will people yelling in their ear, at most grounds they'd just hear background noise, but at LR it's up close and personal. I just wish we could recreate the atmosphere from that Chelsea game every game.
To a dick like Poyet I suppose length and width would matter. He doesn't mention girth though. Maybe that's his problem.
