The striker with the name in the title above is now linked.....

    http://www.nufcblog.com/2012/12/27/newcastle-lining-up-gabon-striker-for-january/?

There’s news in the Daily Mirror today that Newcastle are busy lining up St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and they will go after him if there are any hitches in the move for Marseilles striker Loic Remy – who seems to be the first choice for the Magpies.

French clubs tend to try to get as much out of Newcastle for their player as they can – just look at how Lille kept hiking the price up for Mathieu Debuchy in the summer – so if Marseilles do that then the Tyneside club will attempt to bring in the 23 year-old 26 times capped Gabon International.

A Newcastle source explained to the Mirror:

“When Mike Ashley decides what a player is worth, he never budges. Newcastle have a valuation of Remy and will stick to it. They have a Plan B, if it doesn’t work out.”

The 23 year-old plays as a forward and stands just over 6 ft tall and he started his career at AC Milan back in early 2007, and he was loaned out to Dijon, Lille and Monaco before joining Saint Etienne on loan in early 2011, and he finally signed for them on a permanent basis late last year.

At the French club he has played 74 times and scored 28 goals, so he certainly has a good eye for goal.

Pierre-Emerick was born in Laval, France of Gabon descent, and he has so far played 26 times for Gabon with 8 goals. Pierre is the son of former Gabonese international Pierre Aubameyang and is the younger brother of Catilina and Willy, who have both also played for the Milan youth teams.

But his value is quoted at around £9M, and we cannot see Newcastle paying that much for this lad, who is a bit like Jonas Gutierrez and wears a Spiderman mask sometimes – when he scores.

It’s good that Newcastle have a plan to fall back on if Remy is too expensive, and we hope they have another one if Aubameyang also turns out to be too expensive.

I watched him for St Etienne the other night against Bartons Marseille. Fairly quick and threatened on occasion but couldn't say he blew me away. Only one game though. I'd much prefer to hear which centre back we are signing, we don't even seem to be linked. That may not be a bad thing as its rarely the ones in the papers which go ahead for us. I suspect this Remy charade is a decoy for other deals.

Looks like a good little player and he must have something about him to start at AC Milan to.

Also love that he wears a spiderman mask!

Nice name he has. But I question the Plan B of Mike Ashley.

“When Mike Ashley decides what a player is worth, he never budges. Newcastle have a valuation of Remy and will stick to it. They have a Plan B, if it doesn’t work out.”

Let's say Remy isn't available for that valuation and they go to Plan B. What goes to say that Plan B would be up to his valuation as well? If he thinks this Aubameyang is worth 3 million euros and they demand 5 million euros he is obviously not going to budge. Then are they going to say they will turn to Plan C, D, E and so forth?

This is what I don't get. At the end of the day, if we turned to Plan F, our 5th-best choice striker to get, and he turns out to have much more flaws in his game than say Remy, why then didn't he stump up that extra 1 or 2 million pounds above his stupid valuation for Remy.

This kind of gamemanship is exactly the reason why we are stuck so low in the table without a decent RB and CB and are lacking.

In any negotiation you would hope there is flexibility but MA needs to realise that sometimes our valuation may be wrong and we need to pay the 'going rate'.
I think the Carr successes have made it seem like a piece of piss to find low price gems and the reality is often somewhat different.

If he costs more than a multi-pack then we can rule this out.

I like how whenever we get linked to someone, articles in the following days all say that we will face competition for their signature which immediately puts us out of the race. Surely you have to expect competition for the signatures of the better players?

Seen a fair bit of this lad, as we were linked a couple years back, and he's a decent player.

He's wildly inconsistent though, and not a patch on Ba, less so Remy, but that could be coached up, every now and then he looks world beating, he has good pace for his height, and good strength, but is far from a natural finisher.

A pairing with Cisse could work, but I'd call it a gamble <ok>

Would prefer aubameyang to remy. Remy looked like he was going to be a real prospect about 4 years ago but for whatever reason he hasn't quiet lived up to his early hype, he is still clearly a very good player though.iv seen aubamenyang in action for gambon and I thought he was brilliant, good pace, looked threatening. I don't know where we would play him though, He's 3 years younger than remy and lots of room to improve. Age is on his side and playing regularly in the prem could turn him into one hell of a player
