Hi all,

Saw this on the BBC site and thought it slightly odd.

    http://metro.co.uk/2013/10/22/pierr...-join-spurs-after-weird-negotiations-4156856/

For those that cannot go on the BBC site....

"Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he will never forgive Tottenham for scuppering his potential transfer to White Hart Lane.

The Gabon striker, who joined Borussia Dortmund for £11million in the summer from St Etienne, claims he rejected the chance to move to Spurs the previous season after the club turned negotiations sour.

‘Tottenham tried to sign me in June 2012,’ Aubameyang said ahead of Dortmund’s Champions League tie against Arsenal tonight.

‘But in the end everything became a bit weird. I didn’t really like the way things were done.’

The 24-year-old has made a flying start to his career in Germany, scoring five goals in nine Bundesliga appearances, and claims he will never give the north Londoners a second chance to land his signature.

‘If Spurs ever came back in for me, I’d say no,’ he added.

Now I know it's not uncommon for us to have transfer saga's draw out over many many weeks.... Bale, Verts, Paulinho, willian and Lloris all spring to mind.

and I have been informed (by members on this site no less) that we are now drug testing during the physical that we give players.

But in his (completely un-informative, ambiguous) words - "in the end everything became a bit weird. I didn’t really like the way things were done"

What do you think this weirdness was?

Do you think he was asked to become part of our cloning scheme?

Did Levy try to insert a clause that states that if, at any time his wife or girlfriend becomes a D list celebrity that Defoe is allowed to have a go on her?

Or did we just try to get him a cut price fee....

    Thoughts?

Definitely the D list celeb and Defoe part! <laugh>

I reckon we've probably told him we're massively interested and will guarantee him first team football only to then suddenly back track on it and say he'll have to work his way into the side because we've seen another player we're more interested in (but not telling him about the other player) and so he's probably felt messed about...

Doubt I was right mate... This is me we're talking about!

Though I'm sure we were linked to a couple strikers last year while we were speaking with Ade, so maybe after having talks with Aubameyeng we've also spoken to someone else who the club felt was better, knocked Aubameyeng back a bit and then either been turned down or withdrawn from talking to the other player while in the mean time psising Aubameyeng off to the point where he doesn't wanna know us...

Think the new Southampton lad Osvaldo was someone we were linked to back then. Wasn't there also talk of a bit of Berbatov interest too prior to his Fulham move?

He said this all ages ago, so I assume it was dragged up yesterday because Dortmund were over here beating the Goons.
The original report seemed to suggest that he was tapped up and didn't like it, but this wouldn't make sense when taken together with this, which suggests that it was ok and then went badly late on.
I'm sure he'd still sign for anyone, if they pay him enough money. Eto'o's pre-Chelsea comments didn't seem to stop him.

Eto'o's U-turn is brilliant. What was it, something like "I'd rather sell ground nuts in my hometown than sign for Chelsea!"? Or something along those lines... How money talks.

"Never will I sign for a team trained by Mourinho. He wrecked things completely with his behaviour surrounding the two games between our sides."
"I’d rather sell groundnuts in my village than to play for a pathetic team like Chelsea."

He has also worn "Neon trainers" <laugh>. I've heard it all now.

They might - although they'd be headed back through them feet-first pretty quickly!
