And lets hear what people thought or remember of them. Hopefully some of the less obvious one's.

    Why such a strange thread?

Well today in 1982 a player named Mick Buckley scored the only goal against Man City to keep us in Div 1.

Then i realised i have zero memory of him, despite him being at the club for 5 years and playing 121 times.

Sadly Mick died in 2013 aged just 59.

    So any memories of him?

    Feel free to add more.

Good player...think we bought him from Everton and was a very combative midfield player, always gave 100%....one of those players who tend to go unnoticed, but put the hard graft in. Didn't know he died..RIP Mick.

One of my favourites, for no particular reason because he wasn't very good, was Jamie Lawrence. We signed him straight out of Parkhurst and he had a pineapple on his head before Jason Lee made it popular. My overriding memory of him is being stood in the mainstand paddock and taking one of his badly sliced clearances in the side of the head.
We flogged him to Doncaster or someone but then he pitched up in Bradford City's midfield when they were in the Prem still being crap but having amusing purple hair.

one from the past for me was John Hawley. Best goal I have ever seen at Roker Park against Arsenal. He beat Pat Jennings from at least 35 yards out. Good player.

Everybody knows who Alex Sabella is today. As head coach of Argentina, he’s known world-wide. But how many remember that he was the first Argentine player in the English league? He made his name at Sheffield United, in what was then Division 2. In 1973, he made it known that he wanted to move on. And Sunderland, flush with money from the Tueart/Horswill transfers to Manchester City, went after him. The problem was, Alex wanted a first division club. Bob Stokoe assured him that it might only be one season before Sunderland was one. But Alex dithered, and after being buggered about for days on end, Bob withdrew our bid. Alex went on to sign for Leeds United. A bad move, because Alex wasn’t fast enough for the first division, and nowhere near dirty enough to suit Don Revie either. After just one season there, Sabella returned to Argentina and was never seen here again.

We signed Bob Lee instead. Oh dear.

4 games? Why do i remember him so vividly them?

Our transfers were even suspect back then , non-league to the clanger , aye sure we'll sign him.

Mad barnet like, anyone know what he went down for?

Anyone remember Carlton Palmer, we signed him from. Stoke City in the late 60s (I think) he was something of a hero at Stoke and I remember going there when we played at their old ground, he got an outstanding reception. He never produced for us, attacking midfield cum striker, blond lad loved himself, another failed signing.
