Meh....nice guy and very good player in his day, but not the end of the world. Good look to him though
Rumour has it that there are a few Italian coaches at the club that do the mainstream training, whilst "the old guard" are standing around in the background a lot of the time. I feel one by one the "old guard" will disappear. Phillips was just the first one.
Wouldn't surprise me if this is true. It will take 6 months to a year to feel the full implications of Pearson's sacking as the infrastructure he built over the years starts to crumble. Will a new empire be built on the ruins, or will the rot set in and the collapse begin?
He was only here for a season as a first team coach so I wouldn't consider him "old guard" by any stretch of the imagination. That he became a Assistant Coach is a massive step upwards that he wouldn't have gotten here - especially with only a year's experience - so fair enough that he accepted the role and good luck to the man. As for the whole Italian coaches thing - I can't find anything that backs up that rumour of yours but if it is the case then they seem to know what they are doing given the likes of Mahrez and Drinkwater's improvement over last season and that we are so high in the league table I get altitude sickness when I look at it so I'm all for it. The only problem would be that we are daft enough to pay people just to "stand around" but then we did sign the likes of Bakayako who's sole purpose seem to be to make sure ice don't form on the substitutes bench.
Rumour has it that I once persuaded Gemma Arterton and Rachel Weiss into a threesome whilst Anna Friel had to stand around watching ... god knows how that ever got out .... Another rumour is that having cut his teeth as a specialist coach to the strikers at Leicester City, Kevin Phillips has impressed enough to be head hunted for a full assistant coach position at Derby County ... One of the above rumours may have some credence ... if only, damn damn damn
The glass is always half full with you isn't it. The likes of Steve Beaglehole, Mike Stowell, Jon Rudkin and David Rennie are still here - and were here before NP - as are Steve Walsh and David Mills - who both should get a lot more credit. We have a Director of Football who's job it is to make sure that Rome does not fall - as shown by doing things like hiring someone that has taken us to 2nd in the league... If it does fall and Armageddon rains upon the KP stadium then put the blame on where it belongs - James Pearson for being a racist whoremongerer and getting his dad fired..
He will be missed but good career progression for him here. Possibly a less secure job, but a greater step towards management if that's what he wants. I feel he probably has a big part behind vardys turn around and I thank him
You'd blame James Pearson if things start to go pear-shaped? OK... Don't why I'm being accused of being a pessimist now (posters on this forum like to label, don't they?) as I asked what COULD happen, which included a positive and negative possible outcome. And it wouldn't surprise me if those that Pearson brought to the club started to leave - would it really surprise you? It's not unusual.
No I wouldn't but as you seem to have a hero worship of NP and give no credit to any other factors beside him then yes you should as he was the final straw that caused him to get sacked. Me, I don't give one iota of **** about NP anymore - I am a Leicester City fan and have been for over 25 odd years and remember things like our club being in administration and nearly not existing and being in League 1 so the prospect of some staff leaving gives me no sleepless nights whatsoever. Also you said we will build on ruins rather then carry on and building upwards and onwards - that is what I found negative about your statement.
Pessimism isn't a label it's a characteristic ... and I don't think you are a pessimist either ... if Nigel was still in charge you would be absolutely creaming yourself at where we are now ... but you predicted gloom and doom for Ranieri from the start and I don't think it is in your nature to ever concede that you might have misjudged - so you'll hang in there hoping for that 'told you so' moment - if I was to attempt a label it would currently be Private Fraser from Dad's Army .... "we're doomed I tell ye, doomed" ...
Like when you said Pearson wouldn't get us into the play-offs in 2013? And that he couldn't get us promoted? Then he wouldn't be able to keep us up? Your "told you so" moment never came did it? He proved you wrong so many times you were glad to see the back of him! My predictions pre-season (go back and read them) was that Ranieri wouldn't move us forward (ie, a top ten side) OR backwards (ie relegation). I will judge this after 38 GAMES (not 15 or so like some of our fans last season) as to whether is is accurate or not. I have never and will never "cream myself" about a league position after 5 games - nor would I get too depressed either. Football is too much of a temperamental mistress to ever do that.
Again, assumption. The REASON we went into administration and League One is BECAUSE of good staff members leaving and inadequate replacements coming in. I talked about a new empire being built. How is that negative?
I don't see why there are such disagreements here. There surely isn't one fan on here who isn't truly grateful for what Pearson did and surely none who can't be happy with Claudio at this point albeit early days. It's exciting days for the entire club. As for Phillips, as Ed said above, I suspect he's had a good impact on training the strikers, I just hope we have cover and keep it up
As much as was/still am a great admirer of NP, The fact is he's a big part of Leicester City...... HISTORY !! I think at the moment we are playing a better brand of football under Claudio and I never thought I'd be saying that ! Gangsta Mate , I concur NP over saw our " great escape " but we have to also acknowledge that it was his tactics /team selections that put us bottom of the league for what seemed an eternity . For sure I think CR is a class above NP tactically/technically and definitely seems to be able to bring a " plan B " to the table mate ? I think Nige is a great manager and really earn' t his dollar , plus some ! I wish him the vey best and hope he has rightly or wrongly learned from his experience
